Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
pretty much yeah, if it was a normal car. but new civics have ELD system to regulate voltage output and most aftermarket stereos bypass this system. so your car does not see the extra power demand and limits alternator output like before, basically wasting any extra output you upgraded to.
Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
Would you happen to have any pictures of the main window switch taken apart? I want to compare the switch cap and switch to my crv switches.
I added leds in for the other 3 switches and need to find caps for them. The crv ones are harder/expensive to find. I tried rsx ones but they are different and not compatible.
This what the crv looks like

The crv has auto up on the drivers window. I wonder what is different internally.
The rsx has drivers auto up also.
I put DEI 530t modules to get auto on all the windows

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
the internal circuitry is different for auto/up and also the switch mechanics. ive had that switch open before many times because it constantly messes up. its basically held together inside with electrical tape and eventually i need to buy a new one. but the switch caps im not sure what you are trying to do. fit the crv switches in the civic so they light up? or make all the switches auto?

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
for the 98 HX, it could be a transmission problem with the variable gearing.
DEI makes great alarms (and remote start), ive had mine for 8 yrs no problems.

I want to know if the caps from a 4 door civic will fit on my crv switches/housing. I have already added the leds in for the other 3 switches and I need to collect 3 more 'Auto' caps so the leds will shine through. The housing looks the same but it could be from different manufacturers and be different internally. The CRV board is made by TEC with a PWSS5A model#.
I assume the 2 door switches and caps are different since they are most likely the same as the rsx. The RSX is made by OMRON with a C8H-H22 model# on the board

ah okay. yeah i know the 2/4 door switches are different size, but not sure how they would work on the crv. maybe grab a junky one off ebay for cheap and try to test fit the auto one. i may even have a busted 4 door master switch somewhere here i can send you the auto cap from.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
I need help, I purchase an aftermarket dome light on ebay and installed it, my problem is only the door light switch is working but if you put it on the "on" side of the switch it does not work.
So, I thought it was the light so I sent it back on ebay and bought the same light on a different seller, the same results, its only the "door" side of the switch only works and not on the "on" side of the switch.
This aftermarket dome lights have two wires on it, the same on the wiring of the dome light please I need help

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
have you tried connecting the light directly to the battery? first make sure the light is working properly (switch could be defective in that model). im also a bit confused about the wiring. what car is this for...
Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
how do you remove the front bumper on an 03 civic? I saw in your auto tranny cooler diy that it's outlined in another diy, but couldn't find it. i did search sorry :\
plan on putting on an auto tranny cooler + JDM grill on my civic, it's an 03 EX coupe if it matters
ps: thanks a ton for all of your diys, I've used a bunch of them and it helped me a lot. when i got my first car i really didn't know anything about cars, but after doing a bunch of diys and such i know a lot more about them now
edit: also while i'm at it: my tranny has sometimes been revving up before shifting, mainly a little after when i start my car I noticed, but it could just be a coincidence. like, sometimes when I get out of my driveway, and it shifts from 2nd-3rd it begins changing gears at 3500 or so, but you can hear it rev up a little bit to about 4000 or more quickly and then switch. doesn't happen all the time, but is this a sign that my trannys starting to go downhill? getting a cooler for it before it gets worse soon just a precaution, but i'm not experiencing any other problems with it. fluid is relatively new with genuine honda atf

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
yeah that slip 2-3 when cold is the first sign of trans failure. when it starts doing it after trans is warmed up, you dont have much time left. trans cooler will help, but the damage to the clutch pack is already done and will only get worse with time. not your fault, its a defective piece inside and bad design.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
argh that sucks :\ how long about would I be able to expect from my tranny now? this is my first car and don't have a job so can't really afford to pay for a rebuild anytime soon... anything else i can do to prolong it other than tranny cooler and not driving rough? guess i'm not gonna be doing autocross with it next week :P
also thanks for the link btw!

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
i got another 40k miles out of it so far since the slipping started, and still going with 90k total. so you have a while before it starts getting worse. just dont rev up the rpms too much and let the trans warm up a bit before driving (altho the trans takes quite a bit longer to warm up than the engine, and you need to be in gear to heat it up). i added the 2001 civic HX with CVT trans external fluid filter which may help too, but a basic oil cooler and yearly fluid changes with honda atf is the best you can do to keep it going.
Have a 02 civic lx. am experiencing a whirring noise at speeds fast and slow. thought it may have been the tires which needed replacement. replaced the tires with michelin's and still have the noise. checked under the front end, could not find any loose items which could cause the noise. any suggestions ?

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
is the noise coming from inside or outside? if inside, it could be alternator whine caused by bad ground connection. is it wind noise? does it make the noise with the car stopped and revving the engine in neutral?
