Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

the srs system will detect that no driver airbag is present, which will disable the whole system. i dont know of a way around this. just deleting the dash light icon will not do anything. The srs unit controls and is connected to all the airbags and seatbelt tensioners. im looking at the wire diagram but the problem is i cant make any sense out of it. wires just go from the airbag to th srs unit. and i dont know the specifics of how the actual airbag works to figure out a solution (i dont know whats in the airbag as far as electronics).

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

I installed my rear speakers (which was a long process which included drilling new holes to fit grrr lol) and put in a new deck last weekend. This weekend I'm going to tackle the fronts finally. I tried to pull the door off but the window handle (manual roll ups) won't pop off no matter what I do, all the screws are out on the door. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

usually there is a c-clamp you have to pop off with a screwdriver by pushing it parallel to the door panel. once that is out, the roller will fall out.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

Dear Gearbox: I've read somewhere that the metra hybrid dash headunit kit (http://www.amazon.com/Metra-997897-H.../dp/B0002BESEQ) can be made to work with the standard consol, allowing me to keep the door pocket. Is this the case? If so, that would be wonderful, as I find the standard mount kit with the open pocket to be quite unsightly.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

yeah the link you posted works just fine. alot of people have it. when you take the dash apart, only unscrew the stock radio from the bracket. the pocket is separate and has its own screws. then use the new trim piece on top with the aftermarket radio.

example from member rides. the two reasons i dont like it are the color is different than the dash and you cannot use the stereo trim plate.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

Exactly the info I was looking for! Thanks!
I...must have missed that photo...
I think I'll go for it, since I personally think no trim-ring looks better than the other trim ring and having it sit uneven with the surface. I could always try to fiberglass and bondo some sort of trim ring up as well, I'm game for a challenge

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

for the rear defogger, what exactly are you looking for? there are alot of wires that go to the different hvac control pieces and nothing specific for each button. its all internalized in the modules.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

for the actual defogger circuit, the blk/yel wire comes from the fuse box (fuse 14, 10 amp) to the heater control switch and is hot when the ignition is ON. when you turn on the rear defog button, power goes from the heater control to the yel/blk wire, which connects to the rear window defogger relay. the relay opens, and power from another fuse box wire (fuse 11, 30 amp) activates the rear window antenna coil mounted in the trunk near the speakers, which then heats the window traces. the wire from the relay to the coil is black.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

Hi Gearbox.

I ran over a big rubber cone in the middle of the hi-way and it broke part of my bumper and the plastic inner liner. I've searched this site and is having a tough time getting any info. Is it easy to replace the plastic inner liner or do I need to send it to a repair shop? If you do, can you give me a link or a step by step guide on how to replace it?

Thanks.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

do you mean the black rubber strip on the bottom of the bumper? should be easy to replace with clips and bolts holding it. it is just an air dam and you dont really even need it under there. if you mean the large plastic lower engine covers, those arent too hard to change either. i think they are held on by those plastic clips. pics would be good.

ngk or denso plugs are good, iridiums if you have the money but plain copper works fine too so long as you change it more often. air filter if its stock, napa gold (wix) paper filter is very good.

Yes the large plastic lower engine covers, as well as the inner fender. Do I need to raise the car or not to replace them?

Thanks.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

rasing car would be easier, but if you can slide under enough to see where the clips are, it should be doable. remember you need to also remove parts of the fender plastic above the wheel because it shares a few clips with the engine cover.

Alright folks.. I know that this is going to sound dumb.. But I need some help.. I am helping a friend clean out his brothers stuff.. ( Don't ask why ).. And he was really into Honda Civics... I think it was a 2003... As they have been cleaning out his stuff, there are boxes and boxes of stuff... Can anyone help us identify what some of this stuff is. I know what some of it is. Like a new hood, bumper and so on.. But there appears to be a couple engines and transmissions parts... Thanks a lot.. if you e-mail me at joepetri@hotmail.com or show me how to post the pictures here... Again thanks a lot

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

Hey gearbox.

I seem to be having an issue with the odometer of my 01 civic odometer. I just realized that the backlight was not turning on while I was in the middle of testing / replacing a bulb for the speedometer. It still displays the meter readings, just not turning odometer backlight on at night. Know any idea? Thanks.
