Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
prolly just a burnt bulb. the odometer display has its own twist socket in the back. and the bulb pulls out. you should be able to order it from honda or try to match it at the auto store.
Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
I am having problems with my fog lights.
I bought these fog lights:
http://www.winjetauto.com/Product/Se..._ID=1000001610
Everything is grounded and wired correctly but I am not getting any power. My friend checked out with his tool and he said the brown plug that is with the switch harness is not giving out any power. He said I can wire it to my headlights instead of using the switch to get power. How would I go upon doing that? My fog lights have its own relay, is it safe?
(03 civic lx sedan)
P.S. I don't know a thing about cars so it would be nice if anyone could explain in depth.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
you are better off doing the wiring yourself. the oem system is terribly complicated with all the plugs and connectors for no reason, and the aftermarket ones never even work to begin with. this is how i made my relay harness for the hids. you can use the same thing for fogs except substitute the hid ballast for a fog light halogen bulb. for the trigger (86), you can tap any wire since it only carries a low volt signal (headlight, park light, any power wire you want to turn the relay on with). and doing it this way, you do not even touch the interior of the car for wiring. everything is outside in the engine bay and all you do is connect power from the battery and ground to the chassis. for example if you tap the 86 wire to the +12v headlight wire as shown below, the fogs will come on whenever the headlight is used (lo and hi beam mode).

Hey GearBox,
Wicked thread you got here.
i have a quick question for you. im planning on upgrading my 04 Civic Si-G intake.
I've done research and i've conlcuded that im going to to get this one..
http://www.autocarparts.com/part/269/341/
anyways.. im wondering when i install this sri am i just taking out the airbox, and airfilter box and putting it onto the intake manifold, or do i have to upgrade the intake manifold as well?
also, do you reccomend i upgrade anything else, to allow this SRI to not stress my engine in anyway??
any insight you have on this is much appreciated.
i have a long list of things i need to tackle with this car, still wanna make it my own.
im actually going to be starting a head gasket repair on my old 1995 civic dx coupe tonight hahah
thanks man!

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
intakes are pretty simple. you just remove all the stock plastic airbox pieces and install the new intake to the throttle body. no need to change anything else.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
i would try a new radiator cap first (from honda, not generic). also there are many tests you can do to confirm a bad headgasket before you assume the worst. coolant bubbling out is one symptom, but you should check the coolant for combustion gases with the cheap testers at the auto store. also look at the spark plugs for white residue. is there smoke coming from the exhaust pipe? does the temp gauge go above normal? does the car shake sometimes on a cold start?

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
yeah thats the whole point of the harness. no diodes and ive never had any issues when switching to hi beams. the lows stay on and they do not go out when switching and come back on. the lows use my custom harness while the highs use the factory wiring. the +12v wire stays hot in both lo and hi beam mode so if the hid harness is tapped to that wire, it will never turn off (unless the switch is off).
Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
no smoke from the exhaust, plugs are a nice tan colour, the temp. gauge never went above it's normal and it doe not shake when it's cold. I replaced the rad cap and the coolant reservoir, got those from Honda and it still does it.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
possibly a bad thermostat not opening completely, but opening enough to keep the car from overheating? you could try installing a new honda thermostat just to be sure all the minor things are eliminated.
Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
I got the car back today. The head gasket plus other gaskets were changed, also the water pump and thermostat were also changed for $1300.00
I drove it today and doesn't spew coolant, so yeah!

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
you have to take the bumper off. ive gotten away with only taking the top half off enough so that it can bend out, but dont recommend it. the grill is held on with screws and clips which are near impossible to remove with the bumper on the car. and if you still have the stock radiator cover, there is no way to reach the pins and screws.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
its easy once you do it the first time. ive had mine off hundreds of times and can do it in a few mins. its just removing screws/clips and yanking it off. the clear headlight diy has a good step by step. i would say its about as easy as the door panels if not easier. it helps to have two people since its hard to grab from both sides, but a blanket underneath will keep it from scratching when you drop it. one of the first mods i ever did was the clear headlights and bumper removal and thats when i first got the car and didnt know anything.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
you dont need anything but a flat and star screwdriver. car can stay on the ground. star screwdriver is for the two screws in the fender, the flat screwdriver for the black clips. might be some bolts too idk. i only have two screws and 4 clips holding mine on for ease of removal. there are bulk packs of black clips on ebay for cheap that work as well as the oems.
Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
i might end up buyin those before i take it off, cuz my luck, ill break a few, and from what i have heard, they break pretty easily. i do think i can do it though, but im not gonna try till i get the things im gonna put on it. but thank you for lettin me know
Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
hey I want to do the grill and headlights too.
i already have the lights and grill and the grill is painted and good to go.
do you have to drop the whole bumper for the lights or can you just pull it forward as if one was to do the grill?

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
just pull it forward. the only reason is to get the two headlight bolts behind the bumper (and you need a socket extension 6 inch for one of em). so if you can reach it with the bumper slightly forward, it should work. the grill can be done too but not much space to work with.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
well i would try and detatch the black fender liners from the bumper at least. ive broken quite a few of those before. otherwise you can take the fender screws out, and the grill top clips, and the top half of the bumper should pull out. there is enough flex that the bottom clips should be okay holding the bumper but the top will still pull forward enough to change the grill.
