Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

If your car is registered in Cali, then you must stick with the factory engine, meaning if your car came with a d16y8 then you must keep an engine with the same code. As far as I know jdm engines are completely illegal in cali unless the car has a jdm vin. If you are using it for track purposes only then go for the swap if you can afford it. Sorry I can't be of more help as PA laws are almost on the complete opposite level when it comes to swaps and emissions. I would check with a local shop about the jdm engine to see if there is any loop holes in doing the swap

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

Don't mean to be rude but there is a search function and it will bring you alot of different threads pertaining to installing intakes. That topic has been covered so much that it should be easy to find the info you need. Also it should have came with instructions, if not then I would have sent it back or asked for directions.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

Lmao my buddy did the same thing to his 95 saturn SL2 but since you such a new car I would highly recommend only buying quality stuff. Ghetto rigging **** is the fastest way to destroy things and cars are very expensive to destroy. Just return it and get your like 50 dollars back and just save like 50 dollars a month, more or less depending on what you can afford, and you will have a nice shiny intake in time. Also the autozone piping is plastic and my buddy had to spend an extra 50 bucks on his to prevent the CEL from coming on all the time due to severely different air temps.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

yeah for the 8thgen, it uses a maf sensor and if the intake isnt made well enough to hook everything properly, you will have all sorts of problems. breather tube is required for proper crankcase ventilation and preventing engine damage. i sugest a quality brand like aem.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

okay so i ended up doing it like this. i took that plastic pipe that goes down of the bottow of the filter where the car actually sucks the air in and i replaced that pipe with a metal j shaped pipe and a specter filter. i obviously removed the stock filter so the actual filter box is empty. that way the breather is already hooked up and the sensor is in place so the cel is off. is there anything wrong with this? it sounds good.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

nope that should work just fine. i wouldnt recommend the specter filter cause its not great. if you can fit a weapon-r secret weapon filter, i highly recommend them. only made in 3 and 4 inch inlet tho and its foam so you need a special cleaning/oil kit. if you just want a simple, decent filter go with aem dryflow.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

I found mine by typing "6th gen civic helm's manual" in google. Alot of the sites are down or no longer hosting it but if you use torrents, it is very easy to find them. I literally downloaded it using my phone and it only took and hour for a 2200+ page manual. Just search and keep checking different websites. And now that I typed those keywords, google will bring back this page *rolls eyes*. Good Luck tho, I spent about a week looking til I found one.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

Gearbox, I have an 01 LX. And want my keyless entry to be able to pop my trunk, I hear the 01 Accords trunk latch fits/bolts perfectly in our trunk and this will allow us to pop the trunk with my remote if i wire it in.

Do you have any info or experience with this?

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

yeah i did the swap a long time ago. the latch bolts on perfectly from 01 accord, but you need to have an aftermarket alarm with a spare channel to program the trunk to. oem remote will not work at all for this. btw how did you get keyless on an lx? i thought only ex came with it. and as for wiring the alarm channel to the popper, i just had circuit city do it cause i couldnt figure out where and how to run the wires.

oh i forgot, my keyless is aftermarket. lol
sweet, so its a simple process correct? my aftermarket has a spare channel im pretty sure, since there is a trunk-pop button on my remote...im guessing it should work if i hook it all up/get some1 to do it for me

thanks!

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

there is no possible way with the civic remote because you only have the two channels. ive heard of one guy getting a different remote that had a trunk button in addition to lock and unlock but im not sure how he did it or what remote he used. it looked exactly like the civic remote except with a third button. may have been accord, or maybe acura EL?

Well things to consider are definitely the sound of the system it will be a severely different sound and usually louder. You will gain hp and possibly gas economy. There is only one downside of getting a name brand and it is the price. With a cat-back exhaust, your cat will remain, it continues from after the cat. It will increase pollution but only minimally since the muffler and resonator are not as restrictive.

Also, to install you will need to remove the old exhaust and it shouldn't be too hard as I think it's only 6 bolts. You will have the most problems with these and the hangars holding the exhaust up. Some good penetrating oil on the hangars and some lubricating grease on the hangars should make it easiesr if you're having problems.

Please check with local laws as some states are currently passing exhaust bans. Check with semasan.com for all legislature on all subjects and for all states.

Now for my opinion, I would not go with Magnaflow as it is more of an all around exhaust. For our 4 cylinder cars I would suggest a tuner name such as greddy or hks. Don't get me wrong though it will still sound nice but you won't feel as if you are driving a civic any more but more of a cavilier. Any other questions please ask.

Thanks for the info about the exhaust. A different question, I am considering putting in fog lights: If I install them, am I able to wire them so that they turn on JUST when I flick the switch in the interior? Any details on it?

T2D, did the fog lights come with a switch and it's harness? If it did then I wouln't see why it wouln't. When I installed my foglights everything came in the package and it worked only with the switch.

The ones Im looking at do include the switch and wiring etc. I have seen DIY one how to make it so that the fog lights will turn on with the parking lights, but I just want to be able to turn them on when I want to.
