Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
The lenses on the coupe headlights could be interchanged with the lenses on sedan headlights, right? How about between ebay headlight lenses and oem lenses? I'd like to be able to keep the stock left right aiming of the sedan headlights but I'm in dire need of new lenses. I've heard that clear coating after wet sanding would solve the issue of the lens yellowing. Is that true?

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
i have ebay lenses from projectors on my oem housings. i know from sanding carbon fiber if it is yellow it has to be sanded a lot. if it is just oxidation on the surface it doesnt require as much sanding.
as far as on 04-05 the headlights are the same on coupes and sedans..i am pretty sure the same is for 01-03

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
there are some difference between aftermarket and oem. for instance, i noticed the oem amber piece would not fit in the ebay chrome trim at all, there were massive gaps all around. the lenses while they should be the same, also are slightly different and how they fit with the trim piece. so thanks speedfoos but im just gonna wait and get new aftermarket lights sometime to swap. then i can swap over the amber inside too.
for the turn signal, i bet you forgot to plug back in the hazard light switch harness. signals will not work without it. a quick test is press the hazard button. if nothing happens, its unplugged in the back.

Hey gearbox do you think doing a retrofit with smoked headlights like these will look good on a silver car? Or am I better off with the chrome?

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
yeah but the whole thing is smoked, even the headlight reflector. i like blackout but only the outer chrome trims.
Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
I've been looking at the pictures of the different retrofits people have done and I think I'll stick with the chrome lights. Thanks for the input.
As for the 50W ballasts you recommended earlier from the ebay seller yourhid, do I need to also buy a wiring harness like the ones offered at retrofitsource.com?

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
yeah the wire harness is separate and required. our stock harness is too small to power both ballasts on startup. i made my own if you want i can look for the drawing i made

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
that would work for hid kit only but can be made to work with a real retrofit using d2s bulbs. all you need extra is the amp to d2s conversion cables. just make sure you tell him which bulb type you have so it plugs into the stock connectors (H4 or 9006). if you have bixenon, it gets a bit more complicated.
Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
Thanks for the help gearbox. So just to summarize the components I need for a TSX projector retrofit:
1. 50w ballasts & wiring to D2S bulbs from ebay seller yourhid
2. Wiring Harness (relay), specifying H4 connectors from retrofit source.
Which part do I need to modify? The relay to ballast connection?

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
well yeah, the ballast just comes with spade connectors and i recommend hardwiring them to the harness. get some newish philips d2s bulbs too. you may also want a spare set of headlight. are you using oem housing or projector?

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
hey gear, you think i should make it another DIY retrofit? with explainations though out the install? imma do another retro this tues because im done with school
Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
I plan on buying a set of oem style cleared headlights like what you did for your retrofit. And then getting the replica e46 shrouds. The rest of the things would be what I listed above. Do you think it's a good idea to get a set of replica tsx projector lenses from retrofitsource? I'm guessing the purpose would be to ensure that the projector lenses are scratch free.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
i wouldnt bother unless the stock lens is badly scratched. i would def paint the tsx cutoff shield flat black tho to make the cutoff sharper and eliminate the weird rainbows above the cutoff line. i need to buy a new set of headlamps soon to swap out the lenses i have now. they got all messed from greasy silicone and weld vapors getting on them, and the inside got scratched when i tried to wipe it off. my projector lenses are hazed too but i dont know if i wanna tear it all apart to clean.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
still got the intake, still love it. only small purchase i need to make is a new cleaning kit for it. i end up cleaning the filter every 6 months now because of how much dirt it traps.
the tsx projectors, i dont really care for them much because they arent the best and also they have a problem where one side is brighter than the other. which youre gonna have to test once you get your pair. if you get a good pair where both sides are bright, then youre prolly fine. also make sure you get the clear lens version and not fresnel (the one with circular lines in the lens).

I bought some halo headlights but have not hooked the halos up yet cuz I don't want them to burn out. I have been reading and you have said "if they have them wired right" What do you mean by this and how do I wire them right?

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
well, they only wired for 12v. so if you use it with the car running, they will burn out fast at 14v+ power from alternator. you can goto radioshack and buy a 12v voltage regulator and wire them to that. it will keep the voltage at 12v so they wont burn out. or open the lights and wire in your own better and brighter leds. they use junk ones inside.

ive never done one before, but it shouldnt be too bad once you get the panel off and see how the old one is put in.

The whole thing about CAI's sucking up water is bull, no offense anyone. I've driven through puddles where it actually touched the bottom of my rotor and the filter was slightly submerged doing about 3K. The reputation they got is from people trying to drive civic's an the likes though lakes as if they were jeeps. You just can't do that. Everyone has their opinion on which is better though, short ram or cold air though.
Good places to find CHEAP car audio is woofersetc.com. bought 2 sets of Alpine 6.5 Type X components a little while back for750 I think. I use crutchfield when I install other peoples radios and the like since it comes with hardware. I always have the hardware for my car on hand so there is no need. Also always check ebay for NEW audio equipment.
I don't have a DIY for a flip flop trunk but I have seen plenty of people go to Lowe's or Ace's and buy hinges and take the trunk of the moving arms. They place the one part of the hinge where the trunk deck was at and blt the trunk deck to the other half of the hinge. One for each side. I personally don't like them but if your going to do it might as well spend 10 bucks instead of 40.
For as long as I knew about Optimas there have always been people that hated them. For what I paid for mine, it was cheaper then any matching lead-acid battery. So far, I have had no problems with it and hope I never do.
Gearbox, has anyone told you lately they love you, you have WAY too much free time, or that yu are very smart? I have some electrical questions for you. I know you love LEDs so I'm trying to make my own underglow with LEDs and my idea rght now is to take LEDs and either just wire with the bare wires then insulate later, or take speaker wire and shove the leads of them through the wires. Once they are all wired shove it all into a clear pvc pipe. Looking for any input on it as I want to start but want to have my plan together first.
Oh yeah, You ARE the man. lol

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!
hmm leds are tricky because they have to be waterproofed. with all the work youre gonna do cutting mount boards and wiring hundreds of leds and trying to make it look decent, its prolly cheaper and easier to just buy a led underglow kit. some good ones are barely over $100.

can never have enough diys for retrofit.
