Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

As far as I know there is no real diy for it but you should look into finding a helms manual for your specific year. Thats the easiest way. Other wise you can look for diys on each part of the interior. But if you don't feel like looking for either of them, you can always start pulling the panels off one at a time. Just be very careful and if you feel resistance look for screws or bolts first. Some just need a little bit of force to pull the clips off. Good luck.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

yeah you can prolly figure it out on your own. like in the rear, the cushion comes out first, then the side pieces around the fold down seats, then the upper plastic pillars, and then rear deck. front panels pretty much just pull off. almost everythings held in by clips.

for the fuse box, i wouldnt know where to start. the power wires are easy to extend, but its the big loomed one thats gonna be a pain cause im guessing theres 20+ wires all wrapped together.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

Hey guys, I recently bought some side mirrors that have leds for turn signals.

I have a white, black, and blue wire leads coming from the led's (black most likely ground).

i dont know where i could be able to wire the turn signals up at. i attempted to try the turn signal going to the hazard switch but no go (i assume i need to get a power source first and ground it as well)

could anyone with any knowledge on it help me out? thanks

ALSO, im assuming i can simply wire them up to the turn signal bulbs but would have to run them to the under dash fuse box

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

first test what the wires do by using the battery. then once you know, run them to the proper power sources. you can tap each power wire to the factory turn or park wire. im guessing you have the dual color ones and white and blue wires are power, one for each color. so you can wire one color to turn signal and one to park light if you want.

two ways you can do this.

get the signal power from ur turn signal, run them into and under ur dash out to ur engine bay...

or

you can take out ur center guages (speedo) and the left/right turn signal wires are there.... you can tap their power.

check this thread, the diagram is on there somewhere

https://www.civicforums.com/forums/4...faq-video.html

as for the white and blue wire, i dont know. only 1 of them is the power. check it with a 12v source to see which turns on.

its basically the same method u would have with a radio install...

https://www.civicforums.com/forums/2...t-install.html

once u have done that, take a FLAT screw driver and pry around ur centerconsole and pop it right off.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

if they are very small size touchups like a chip or something, the brush will be fine. you cant really just spray away with a rattle can and expect it to blend in the surrounding panels. best left to a body shop.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

Saw that you posted in my thread here regarding these types of clusters....https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...th-sedans.html

but figure I might as well post here.

I was looking at the cluster taking it apart but I'm kinda unsure how to take it apart. I want to change some of the lighting and what not but I don't know how to take off the (faceplate, paper thing?)...because the needles are attached on. Am I just supposed to pull the needles off? Because thats the only thing thats holding it together. The other way I guess I could take it off is unsolder the joints on the back of the chipboard...

do you know how to dissemble this thing?

I was looking at PaCiFiKbAllA cluster in his avatar it he looks like he did it as well but im not sure how to do it. i pm'd him but he hasnt responded yet.

also, when im swapping clusters...do i have to resolder wires or can i just twist wires together or what?

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

ya ive taken them apart a bunch of times, usually it works fine afterwards but you gotta be careful. the needles need to be pulled out and put back in the same direction. you have to use thumb and first two fingers to grab the buttom and then push up slowly using the bottom of the gauge for leverage. once needles are out, rest is pretty easy. some faces are held to the plastic light guide with glue, others just pull off. there are also screws in the back once you pop the cover off and that will cause the whole thing to come apart.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

thank you so much.

i was afraid i was going to break it because i was trying to lightly pull them off and then kept trying and applying more and more force. I was trying pretty hard and i was like hmm maybe this isnt the way your supposed to take it off ha

glad to know though.

but yeah whenever swapping the clusters, do you have to do any soldering or anything like that?? or can i just twist the wires together or what not?

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

like swapping the circuitboards? or the whole clusters? as long as you swap with the same style, you just plug in the connectors. all 01-02 lx/ex and 01-05 dx/vp are compatible with the old style, while 03-05 lx/ex are compatible with new style. to swap old and new, rewiring is required.

well, it wasn't the ebrake ground wire. does the ebrake light come on on the console when the brake fluid is low?
well, i guess the car was trying to tell me to check the brake fluid. couple days ago i came down to urbana champaign from chicago (2 hour drive) to visit my brother. the next day i was trying to go and get something to eat, and i had to push the brake pedal to push all the way for the car to stop. almost got into an accident, came back to my brother's place and open the hood to check the brake fluid level...and..it's all gone...nothing in the reservoir. i think the body shop that changed my brake pads and rotors few weeks back, messed it up. they didn't tie a string to the caliper to not give stress to the brake line. they just let it hang by the brake line. maybe the hose is not joined tight to the caliper? hopefully the line didn't rip.
now i have to bleed the brakes. but the problem is that my brother doesn't have any tools here...no jacks, no wrenches...only few screwdrives, hammer, and a nose plier...
how many bottles of brake fluid do i need. yesterday i just bought one bottle (32 oz). and the way i bleed the brakes is from:
back passenger side
back driver side
driver side
then passenger side
right?
do i need any special tools?

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

Hey I was wondering if I could get some help, I've decided to get a front a rear PU Lip Kit. I was looking at the back of my stock bumper on how the rear lip would install, and I am wondering if it is going to fit right because my muffler tip is pretty close to the top of the stock bumper already.

Would I have to extend the hangers for the muffler??? if someone could help or maybe even show some pics I would appreciate it.. Thanx

yeah you may have to get new hangers (the longer rubber ones instead of short) or have a shop play with the bending. i had this problem with my aftermarket exhaust and lip and the shop just bent the hangers so it sits lower.

Re: Ask Me About DIY Stuff V2!

for the brakes:

supposedly the light is for brake fluid too, but i dont see a sensor in the brake fluid reservoir like other cars have. unless its a different system... the only way you could lose pedal pressure is if the master cylinder failed or you have a huge leak in one of the lines. you lose a bit of brake fluid everytime you brake if your pads are low, but that takes time and usually it will not drain the entire container. idk man, sounds more serious than you think. and yeah you need one bottle of fluid that should be enough unless you mess up. but i would find out how (or if) the fluid escaped, or if the master cylinder needs replacing. then youre really in for some fun.
