Check your PM man. I'm hungry and need some food so I don't feel like typing right now. I'll give you a ring.

Congrats on the civic. It looks great.
Also thanks to you I have NO DESIRE TO EVER TURBO CHARGE MY CIVIC!
All that work, and time for 15 sec 1/4 mile.
Not even worth it.
Im fixing the body and getting a WRX.
That was still cool of you to post all your work. Thanks man.

Thanks man!
I especially won't be running 13s since it looks like I popped another HG. Overflow bottle was overflowing today. This is getting fun. I'm going to re-torque the head studs tonight, drop down to 8 psi, and see how it does tomorrow. If I'm still pushing coolant out, looks like I have a Sunday project on my hands. I'm glad I ordered 2 HGs this time....

Re: Boosting 9 psi at the Track - Vid on Pg. 76!! - The Speedfoos' Turbo Install Thre
60 ft. lbs as per the ARP instructions. I might be seeing the difference between an aftermarket cheapie head gasket (which is what I'm running now) and an OEM Honda gasket. We'll see.
I just got home from work so I'm going to let the car cool down and then re-check the torque on the head studs. I've got another cheap HG I can throw on there this Saturday and if that one goes, I'm just going to buy a Cometic to make double-damn sure this never happens again!

Re: Squelch sound - pulling coil packs - HELP! (Pg 80) - The Speedfoos' Turbo Thread!
LOL - good stuff Adam! Glad you like it!
But I got a small problem. I'm just about to pull the VC off to tighten down the head bolts.....
I pull coil pack #1 - "Squeeeelch!!", the bottom of it is dripping with oil.
I pull coil pack # 2 - "Squeeeeelch!!". Same thing.
Coil pack #3 - Ditto.
Coil pack #4 - Dry as a bone.
Did I get blow by oil down in the plug chamber? Is this common? Anyone???
I haven't pulled the plugs yet to see what's going on. At a minimum, I'm going to replace the VC spark plug seals. Any other suggestions folks?
Might the top of my cylinder head be pressurizing?
I'm taking the laptop out to the garage and will check for updates as I work....

This goes with out saying but, That **** is not good.
A buddy of mine had the same thing happen to his 92 accord. He still drove it for another 40 or so thousand before he sold it.
(Post is also to mark current location in all this.)

Re: Squelch sound - pulling coil packs - HELP! (Pg 80) - The Speedfoos' Turbo Thread!
OK. Just pulled the plugs out. Had to do it fast to preserve the condition of the electrodes so they wouldn't get contaminated by the oil in the spark plug wells. I flung oil all over - which was quite funny - but the good news is that the ends of the plugs were dry and looking like they should.
So.
You're right Matt, this isn't good. But, it may not be catastrophic, since it wasn't coming from the piston area. I never had black exhaust smoke so combine that with the plug electrodes and I think it's just blow-by. I've got a couple ideas to try right now.
Keep em coming folks.

Re: Squelch sound - pulling coil packs - HELP! (Pg 80) - The Speedfoos' Turbo Thread!
Just install some new spark plug tube seals on your valve cover and all will be fine.
Re: Squelch sound - pulling coil packs - HELP! (Pg 80) - The Speedfoos' Turbo Thread!
^ i was thinking the same thing. haven't had the chance to crack the VC on the D17 yet, but if it's anything like the motor that was in my protege, there's just rubber seals around the spark plug holes under the VC. should be able to put a new VC gasket in there (the protege's was all one piece) and you should be good.

Yeah, that's what it looks like folks. Whew!! The old seals are all cracked and don't have the extra little lip that my new ones do. Talk about a ****ing panic attack! Oi!!!
Putting it back together now.
Checked the head bolts and they're fine. I'm going to beat on it a little tomorrow and I get more coolant into the overflow, then the HG is getting replaced on Saturday,

First thing that came to my mind when I first read this was damaged piston rings, I'm glad its only plug seals.
But still what a pain.

LOL- varner. All part and parcel to the grand D17 Turbo Gig. I don't look at them as problems. They are simply "New Learning Opportunities"...
I know Richard, that was my original thought, which is why I hit the panic button! Thank the gods (Ra, Consanguinities, and Pookie) that it was just the spark plug seals! I think the HG is still a little leaky, but I'll test that tomorrow.

Re: Everything is OK again - Still boosted! (Pg 81) - The Speedfoos' Turbo Thread!!
I just might actually. I've got a spare block sitting here, but it's completely bare, so I'd need to source the crank, oil pump and a few other things that I don't really feel like looking for. If you plan on selling just the block (no head) with everything inside of it (minus the FW), let me know.
