How good is the stock intake manifold?
I have a D16Y8 intake manifold on my D17A2, and to be honest, the stock Y8 intake manifold looks like a great design as is. My question is how much, if any, would upgrading to an aftermarket intake manifold help performance? I wouldn’t think any, but Skunk2 claims that their Pro Series intake manifold increases horsepower and torque throughout the whole powerband, even on stock engines. However, I don’t see a reason why the stock intake manifold would be restrictive to begin with, so why upgrade it?

Re: How good is the stock intake manifold?
I did call Skunk2. The guy I talked to said the stock intake manifold is restrictive and theirs isn’t, so it gains about 10 HP from idle to redline on a stock engine, and more on a modified engine. He said with the mods I have, I’d gain 15-20 HP by upgrading to a Pro Series intake manifold. Sounds like BS, which is why I’m posting.

Re: How good is the stock intake manifold?
Not on their site. The guy said that they don't provide dyno charts because results can vary so drastically depending on what other mods the car has. I think they would be happy to provide a dyno chart if it actually improved power, even a little.

Re: Correct way to add accessories?
When I installed my fog lights the wiring harness had a connector that plugged directly into the under dash fuse box for switched power.
You can do the same thing with a female blade terminal, look at the fuse box and you should see some empty connectors, use your multimeter to figure out which ones are switched power. Install an inline fuse.

Cheap way to get more electrical power from alternator at idle
I discovered a cheap way to get a lot more power at idle. I put a 48MM pulley for a Ford 6G alternator on my 2005 Civic alternator to replace the factory 66MM pulley, and I’m amazed with the results! Under full load at idle with the stock pulley, the battery voltage drops to about 12.1 volts. However, with the 48MM pulley, the voltage only drops to 12.9 volts under full load at idle. For $15, I’m impressed. I know that putting a smaller pulley on the alternator has drawbacks, but it’s definitely an option to get more power out of your alternator for very cheap. For example, I’m sure my MPG is a little lower, but I’m not sure by how much yet, but I’ll report back when I know. For now, I give the pulley a thumbs up. So if you want more power out of your alternator at idle, maybe consider getting it a smaller pulley.

Re: Correct way to add accessories?
Should have specified you were looking to add accessories that draw a large amount of power...
Why a huge sound system? You lose trunk space, fuel mileage goes down, more likely to have someone break into your car, etc.
If you must, wire off the battery like a normal install, there's ways to have the ELD on a switch.

How should I remove Vasoline from my paint?
Some jerk wrote something offensive on the side of my car with Vasoline. Presumably the same person that scratched “F*** U COPZ” on my back bumper. I tried soapy water, and it just smeared. I am thinking I should use isopropyl alcohol, but I just want to make sure it’s safe for the paint before I try it. I’m pretty sure it is, but I want to be certain before I do it. Besides stripping my wax, will isopropyl alcohol damage my paint? Thanks.
Re: How should I remove Vasoline from my paint?
i know denatured alcohol will temporarily soften paint and will dull it if used with any pressure, not sure i'd try isopropyl.
i would simply use a good dish washing detergent, or laundry detergent as a second choice.

rubbing alcohol is fine, buy some degreaser, brake clean? just get as much excess off as you can with a rag first

Re: Correct way to add accessories?
Had HIDs, a 4x100 amp, and a 1x600 amp connected directly to my battery. Had zero charging system issues. Then again i did have a 1F cap upstream of the 1 x600. Voltmeter in my VAFC-II always stayed in normal range and behavior stayed the same as I either changed or removed components (disconnected 1x600 for a while bc I overworked the sub I had connected to it)
Re: Correct way to add accessories?
Not sure if it's the same in Civic but interesting to read.

Re: Misfiring when cold- Please help!
idk how active this thread is but i’m having a similar problem with my car having very rough starts when it’s cold outside and it misfires. as of right now cylinders 2 and 4 are misfiring. usually when the weather is a little warmer the misfires go away and the car runs strong. this started happening after i replaced the clutch on my d17a2 and it sat for about a week and a half. already changed coil packs and coolant temp sensor. ezone, i have noticed my car losing coolant though, so what could it be other than a blown head gasket? i appreciate any replies, thanks.

Re: How should I remove Vasoline from my paint?
UPDATE: I used isopropyl alcohol, and it removed the Vasoline without damaging the paint. It obviously stripped my wax too, so I had to re wax that area again, but not a big deal. Thanks for your help guys!

Get it to act up one morning, shut it off before it clears itself out, pull plugs out and inspect for antifreeze on the electrodes?
Re: How should I remove Vasoline from my paint?
...if you went to auto parts store and asked they should have given you detailing dewaxer degreaser.
Breakclean should absolutely never be used anywhere near paint. ...found that out first hand when our old boss told us to was a bmw and clean the rims. Naturally we used brakeclean. The clear coat melted off the rims in patches and the rest flaked off. The customer was none too pleased.
I wouldn't use solvents like alcohol either, taking into account that even the wrong type of soap, like dish soap, can remove wax, and over long periods damage clear coat from dehydration/oxidation.

Strange vibration from engine
My Civic suddenly developed a pretty significant vibration when that starts when above 2K RPM and stops when above 2.5K RPM. The vibration happens weather the car is in gear or not, and it doesn’t matter if the engine is warmed up or cold. The engine runs fine otherwise. I think that the OEM harmonic balancer is starting to go bad. Is that likely? Thanks.

Re: Strange vibration from engine
bad engine mounts, misfire, etc
my truck had a misfire that made it feel like the rear end was going to blow up, no check engine light though

Re: Strange vibration from engine
Agree if it was a sudden change to check all the mounts.
Get someone to hold the throttle down while you listen with a mechanics stethoscope. Amazing how accurately you can determine vibration sources using that tool.
