Dunno, haven't bought mine yet. I'm waiting until I get back to the states this fall so I can comb the junkyards to get the right ECU (and rear brake setup) and then I'll figure it out. I'm not paying $800 for a crappy tune in the UK so I'll just run my piggyback for another month.

hmm foos after much research i think kpro would cost around the aem ... here the aem retails for 14-1600 ... and kpro is 1300 + u need rsx ecu ~200-300 + install the cam gear which is also some money... so they both work out around the same price if not more ... its also a greater hastle for me to get my hands on an ecu, send it in, wait for it to come back, then to just get the aem ... what is ur input on this? does the aem, come equipped to use ur A/C or that is the more expensive model which is around ~17-1800 ?

Don't know much about the AEM aside from the fact that you can't pass a thorough emissions test with it. That right there rules out the AEM EMS for me. Check Ebay to source your ECU, you shouldn't pay more than $200-250USD for it. You can get k-pro done for right around $1K USD and then add another $150 for the cam and you get a fully functional ECU replacement that will still allow you pass any emissions test (provided the car is tuned properly). Since my car is a daily driver, 49-state legal is a must.

hey thanks for that input .. so ur going to get a highflow cat and dump ur open waste into ur exhaust as well right?

IF i baught a KPRO'd 02-04 rsx/rsx-s ecu and baught the aem cam gear myself .. would that work? or i'd have to kpro for the d17 on the ecu ...

You have to buy the cam gear through hondata since they modify the cam gear since the kseries rotates the opposite way from the d17. I think you should research the hondata site to get a better understanding.

hey i did research the hondata site i jus wasn't sure if a regular kpro'd 02-04 rsx/type s ecu worked or not .. cuz i can get one on the forums for 1000 bux shipped ... thought maybe the d17 kpro is different ... I don't get why they wouldn't jus sell it as the RSX KPRO and sell the cam gear only .. instead they call it d17kpro lmao making me think its something different .. basically what ur saying is the d17 kpro is exactly an rsx, but they use the modified cam gear .. hmm ? also why does it say the basemap is for d17 NON VTEC? isn't it simply rsx kpro and why non vtec? what happens if u have VTEC ? u jus have to tow ur car?

I pretty sure the basemap they made initially was done on a non vtec car. I would contact Boilermaker or Andyman they might have a VTEC basemap you could use temporarily. You are correct though Kpro is kpro only difference is you need a special cam gear and change some wiring with your O2 sensors. Its' obviously a little more complicated than that but you get the jist now.

My guess is the reason it's a non-VTEC basemap is because of that very reason. It's a basemap. There are too many variables on a each boosted car to properly program the VTEC engagement for a basemap. Best just to leave it alone since you need to get it tuned anyway.

There is a difference in the programming between an RSX k-pro and a D17 k-pro. They are completely different engines with different operating parameters. I'm sure they could have made k-pro to work with a D17 ECU, however since they already had it for the RSX, it was much easier to simply re-tool the programming to work with the D17. Hence the reason we have to use a special cam gear (an RSX one from what I understand) to get the k-pro to work properly.

The car should be able to safely limp to a tuner with the basemap though.

so foos, u kinda a lil confused me there lol because u say there is different programming ... does that mean i can't buy 02-04 kpro off rsx forums off a member here in toronto?? or i could and just buy the cam gear off of hondata.. and boom there's my kpro for 1200 .. member is selling used 02-04 rsx kpro for 1000 pick up

It would have to be flashed for the d17 anyway.

Buy a CRV 5 speed ecu from a yard, they're cheaper. Have it flashed, buy cam gear. My whole setup was about $1100 and I have a warranty on the ECU now.

There you go. Listen to Rufus. K20 programming is different than D17 programming. You will be buying an $1100 paperweight if you buy that RSX one unless you k-swap. I'm pretty sure a re-flash can be had at a discount if you originally bought the k-pro and are switching engines, but you'd have to ask Hondata about that.

how much does the flash cost??so basically in order to kpro .. i absolutely HAVE to and MUST pick up a donor ecu and have it kpro'd for the d17 specifically... there's no fukin point in piking up the rsx kpro tonight for 1000, i was gona meet him thinking it would work lol but to flash it for d17 .. thats jus extra headache

you can buy a RSX kpro and use it with the d17. Thats what I did. I just had to find a place willing to get me the cam gear. Thats the only difference between the RSX one and the D17 one... Well the gear and programming.

Understand. All the ECU's do the exact same thing. Regardless if it's out of a type s or an ep3, the changes are only based on the maps. Basically, hondata, or any tuner, for that matter, takes the base cam angle, ignition, and fuel maps and tweaks them, creating new maps. That's it. Certain maps have certain functions that others may not, but that's why it's important to select the map for your setup straight off when you tune it for the first time.

I ran a k20a2 turbo map for about 2 1/2 hours before my first tuning session and other than being a little rich, the car ran fine.

There is no specific "flash" to the d17. When you have kpro, it's fully programmable. You set up EVERYTHING!!!!!!!! Hondata just offers different maps for different setups that you can load for a closer starting point to fine tune off of. All you do is plug your laptop in and sen the calibration (map) you choose to the ecu and it runs the car.

andyman ur fukin the angel of boost u make everything so good .. so with that said and done ... i SHOULD go buy that kpro tonight for 1000 dollars rite???? rather then shop around for a donor, send it in blah blahh blah ... i called the guy he told me that he can plug the ecu into my car and show me that it works ... or that he will plug it in his and show it will work ... what do i look for ... i am 100% newb at kpro .. what should i look for to know that the ecu and kpro is fully functionable ... im meeting him at 7:30 guys !! KPRO HERE I COME wooohoooo ... hmm jus a thought, aren't the pins different for the rsx-s ecu and the d17 .. how would it fit be compatible?

You can't run it in your car without the cam gear, period. What to look for? That it runs his car. Have him take you for a ride and make sure it runs smooth. At least this way, you know the injector and ignition drivers are good and not fried and it reads all of the sensors necessary to run the car. Also, check for CEL's on his dash. If he has any, look at the software and see what they're for.

You're still prolly gonna spend about 150-200 or so for the cam gear, depending on if you can find a hondata dealer that will sell you one individually. If not, you're kinda screwed. I dono tho, I got all of my **** at once when it was brand new.
