Re: What did you do to your civic today?
mirrors got painted in one day ftw. i got excited and wanted to see how they look, so i decided to assemble and install them today with the old actuators. cleaned up what looked like wwII inside the housing, put new grease on the moving parts (ES formula 5 prelube lol) and swapped them out. the nervous part was snapping the mirror glass back in place. install was easy just a few bolts. the stock connectors plugged right in, i just had to rotate them 180 degrees. tried the power functions, and both sides work perfectly! i guess they just needed some cleaning and lube. sucks i already ordered two actuators i dont need now. anyway, the body shop did a pretty good job. the silver is a bit darker but i know how hard it is to match. overall these folding mirrors were a perfect fit and look amazing on the car. totally different and more normal like every other honda. the old mirrors are terrible side by side lol. and the hybrid shape is supposed to be more aerodynamic compared to the ex mirrors. even better when folded. pics coming tomorrow...im holding onto the old ones just in case i destroy these. i have a bad habit of banging mirrors to walls and stuff lol.

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
all you get is garage pic today >) hardest part was aiming the mirror on the road without crashing, and i still dont have it exactly where i want. if they made blockoff plates i would just take the mirrors out completely. next best was the bomex aero mirrors (discontinued), third best im stuck with the hybrid mirrors. cant complain tho

^Those look great.
Billksme made a set of carbon fiber mirror delete plates, they look pretty good and he's selling them.

thanks , your new screen name is OSHA.. LOL jk
not sure if the tech had one down there or not. .. ive dropped more than one car of a jack in my time. they all still ran fine.... however one needed a new rotor.
thanks for the safety advice tho.. Snicker.

Theres a shop around here charging $1000 after installation of a AT off a 02 civic. The tranny was imported from Japan. Do you guys know if the Japanese trannies failed as well? Or was that just an American thing?

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
they are pretty much the same. most of the usa trans were 85% japan or something. its just really bad redesign for 01-05. you can still drive the car tho right? it just doesnt lock out the tc after 30mph? doesnt sound too serious and may just need a new solenoid or something. any D light blinks?

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
I was driving 80 kmph so ya it's still driveable. I don't really know how the AT works. What kind of tests can I do to it? It might be worth mentioning that it's been slipping a lot more lately and doing some pretty hard shifts.
The trannies the shop has are basically brand new. one with 55k km, the other 65k km. The 65 is off an 02 he said and the 55 is a newer one.
I thought the problem was just 01-02? There are virtually no complaints for models later then that. I also thought I heard somewhere that they fixed something for the 03-05?
EDIT: Also, I was like 1 minute away from Canadian Tire, so I bought a scanner to check it. Then I went straight to my house so I didn't really diagnose it. I parked it as quick as I could lol. I was worried. Then i got online and checked and got even more worried.

01-05 has the same trans as far as i know. i have heard complaints on the newer ones but not as many as ofcourse they are newer cars. give it a few more yrs and it will be like the 01-02 is now. you can swap in a trans with 0km and it will still have a problem eventually. just luck of the draw if it goes at 20k or 100k.

It jumped like 1500 rpm when shifting then wouldn't pull anymore... slam on the gas with virtually no power gains. Me and my Mechanic are going to talk to a friend of his who rebuilds trans and see if we can get a good price. If not then I'll probably end up getting it switched for $1000.. Hopefully it works out. I can't afford to get a different car right now, especially after doing a bunch of maintenance stuff to this car recently.
Re: What did you do to your civic today?
Yaaaayy! Finally had my exhaust converted today. Been running a vtec swap with the original d17a1 exhaust for a while now. Only had an axle back. I had installed today: an ex manifold, 2.25"downpipe, 2"vibrant hf cat, 2.25" magnaflow resonator, and 2.25" piping back to 2.25"in/3"out muffler.
Soo...im surprised by the difference in performance, but a little dissapointed in the sound. Its a bit raspy until its warmed up. Eh..i may have a second resonator added or a longer/quieter muffler, but for now im happy.
Now I gotta try n extend my o2 sensor wires. I use heat shrink butt connectors for everything, so lets see how rusty my soldering has gotten!

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
youre making me very nervous. my auto has been whining all summer at idle and low speeds around 20mph. its gotten loud enough to hear while driving.
Re: What did you do to your civic today?
Just installed some footwell LED lights both front and rear. I also did trunk, I will post pictures soon. It was the easiest thing I have done to my 2010 civic yet, the guys instruxtions were easy for anyone to follow and they are high quality not made cheaply at all and they were reasonably priced.

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
I'm torn between a rebuild and swap. I do know that I'll most likely keep the car though cuz i don't have many other options for a vehicle right now.
At least it happened now and not in the middle of the winter where it would have been a huge pain to do anything.

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
If i creep on the gas peddle i can get it up to any speed basically. drove it like 80-100km to get it home. Just had to get it up to that much really slowly. Slips on shifts. If you press on the gas hard at all the clutch slips and the RPMs will just shoot up and give you nothing.

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
rebuild is a waste. they never last more than a year or two max. we've had terrible experiences with other autos and they would be in the shop under the warranty every few months. it will never drive the same as factory and will break all the time. i think most mechanics do not have the skill required to rebuild them properly. the only real option is a used 05 auto and hope for the best. change the fluid every 3 months. and maybe ditch the honda atf. ive heard so many problems related to the z1 its crazy. valvoline maxlife atf seems like the better fluid to use for longer life, and the trans feels exactly the same as with the honda stuff. in fact ive noticed over the past few months the shifts are smoother with maxlife. i had to add lc20 additive to the z1 to get it as smooth as the maxlife without additives. the maxlife is a semi-synthetic like the z1, so it should be safe in used trans (as opposed to full synthetic, which has been proven to destroy older trans). it also has a lower viscosity so i am crossing fingers for better performance (less slipping) this winter. wish i wouldve switched sooner.

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
Local importer has 2 from Japan. One has 55k km and is $850. The other has 65k km and is $750. The 65k is off an 02 and the 55 is a newer one (He couldn't remember the year when I was on the phone with him).
I'm very skeptical about these guys because I have no idea if the KM they say are true or not and have no way to find out.
He told me they would install the 65k one for $300 and knock 50 off the tran if I buy it from them. So 1000. Does that sound right to you guys? It sounds really cheap to me.. Maybe if I pay cash and haggle them a bit I can get the newer one for the same price, if not cheaper.
I'll def do Valvoline when I go switch, since you think it's worth it.

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
I wouldn't go for the 02.
$300 is about half price what you should expect to pay from a mechanic for the swap, so that's a good price for the trans swap.

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
I've been researching these guys on local forums. Apparently they're buyer beware with stuff most of the time, though mostly what I've read about is engines. They buy everything from junkyards and auctions in Japan. Some people get lucky, some not so lucky. They give me a 90 day warranty though.. I'm going to look into it more.

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
idk, most place around here want $4-5k for everything. usually somethings up when its so cheap. swapping a trans is not easy. 90 days is nothing, most place have 2 yrs at least. and you have no way of knowing whether the trans was hit in an accident and something broke inside.
