What did you do to your civic today?
Re: What did you do to your civic today?
Yesterday, I installed hub-centric rings on the front wheels, cleaned up the interior a bit, and cleaned up my work space...this weekend, though, I plan to test fit my side skirts, and then remove the front lip and bumper, rear bumper, side mirrors, and door handles, and take them over to get painted.

You mean the plug wires. No, they are supposed to be clean and dry. Probably needs rocker stand seals for the oil leak, or maybe a valve cover gasket set.
FYI: This is a plug wire
And these are coil packs

And these are COP coils (Coil On Plug)

#16 and #17 are the seals that typically leak oil into the plug tubes, and

Kit #1 or #2 is the valve cover gasket set.

Yup, that's an oil leak.
Try to suck out all of that oil you can before you pull the plugs, so you don't hydrolock it. Once you pull the spark plugs, oil is going into the cylinders. Expect a large cloud when you start it.
Replace the plugs and wires when you fix the leak. Those look like low cost cheapo wires anyway.

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
It wasnt all today, but in the last week or so ive gotten the roof and doors PDR'ed, changed the oil, bolted down my sub box and spilled a 20 oz sprite all over the interior...twice
Re: What did you do to your civic today?
Finally decided to install the HFP muffler since I couldn't sell it. Made a mistake and kept the resonator, now it just sounds a bit deeper than stock but made the car look a bit nicer. I guess its not bad for now till I get a full catback system.
Re: What did you do to your civic today?
Bent valves, valve cover gasket leaked allowing oil in timing cover...fun fun...
Decided to work over a head I had laying in the garage. Gasket matched exhaust ports, removed casting ridges, polished valves and valve lapping in progress.
Plenty more to go!

Got the head off. My suspicions were correct. Every exhaust valve is bent, and the pistons all have knicks in them from the valves. not sure if it matters that they are knicked? Im thinking ill install the other head I have. Im done the (mild)p&p, gasket matching, and valve lapping. Have arp studs, top end gasket set, and a neuspeed front strut brace in the mail. Gonna find a machine shop to inspect and machine the heads mating surface awhile and hot tank it.

My concern might be: Are the top rings squashed into their grooves now?
How deep are the dents, how close are they to the ring groove area, how far down is the ring groove, and....do ya feel lucky, punk?
Most people (paying customers) opt to do valves only, they don't want to tear pistons out to inspect rings.

thing is i do all my own work, i have a motor that im using the head from. only thing wrong with that motor is the bell housing is cracked. if i had to i could pull the pistons out of it. i just dont want to do anything i dont have to.

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
Ouch. That looks deep.
I wonder if you can push the piston toward a dent to push the ring in, then move it away, then see if you can slide your thinnest feeler gauge down past the TOP ring.... That's all I can think of without pulling it out and putting your fingers on it.
But like I said, most people opt to run with it even after they are (hopefully) warned about possible compression loss and oil consumption before making that decision. Most come out ok (or I never hear about it if they don't).

Smoothed out the ports in the plastic in manifold and polished throttle body and cleaned the iac. Then dropped my head off to be resurfaced/cleaned for next week.

Cleaned, waxed, and swapped my tires front to back. (Didn't have time to get the tires rotated, so i just swapped the whole rim)
