Rep Power: 296 Its in CS2 when you open up the pic in RAW, I can't remember the name of it Nick, i've done it to a few of my pics. It adds a darkness around the edges in a circular way.
REMEMBERED IT!, Vignetting, i knew i knew the name.

Rep Power: 410 yeah i like the effect of vignette. brings more focus to subject and livens an otherwise bland image.
i have 1280x1024 on here: http://subdomain.dirtysamurai.com/pictures/f3601280.jpg
and 1280x800 here:

Rep Power: 270 So I've been educating myself a bit and getting ready for the world of digital photography and I was literally amazed by what one can do...soooo much to learn...so I thought: Since this is a photography thread, why not compile a few of what I so far understand to be the most important factors in taking really vibrant pics with D-SLRs. I know not many ppl own $500+ D-SLRs, but it'll be an interesting imo to further explore our capabilities with our pics and benefit from the inputs of others.. please add any tips you feel are missing or think are necessary..
How about adding your technique with the pic you post?
Tips for shootinf better pics..
1. Proper composition of the picture
2. Shooting in RAW or JPEG mode(which one do you prefer?)
3. Avoiding noise by controlling underexposure
4. Using the optimal range of the sensors(learning to judge good exposures from the LCD)
5. Maximizing sharpness of pics.
6. Anticipating a finished image before making the exposure..etc

Rep Power: 410 what i do: take the picture, then edit it in photoshop to look like what i want it to look like.
in the debate of raw vs jpeg, i will tend to shoot in jpeg unless i am shooting something that i absolutely know i will want to edit completely later on (i.e. mission critical images). but my camera is 90% in large, fine JPEG mode, ISO 1600.

Cool Infinite..so do you usually shoot manual or auto? It's a fact that manual is much harder, but when mastered the pics come out a lot better than auto..though these ocassions are counted. It's not many times that we can sit there and set everything up..most ppl usually just point, focus and shoot.
RAW mode sounds great cause after all "PC will edit it", but if the pics are under or overexposed when taken, even after editing them with PC they won't ever show their true colors, even when looking really good..yes, one'd be able to play around with contrast, brightness, tone, etc..but the pic is never really like its target.
I can't wait for my camera.
