I never had this problem with them, but I only bought some on-the-shelf items there... (filter, oil, and a strut bar in liquidation)...

I couldn't even answer your oil question.. as well I'm cheapie and using 5w20 Castrol oil. Though some other members have used Motul and basically have all Motul fluids under the hood, so I can only imagine its good enough too

Mobil 1, flush it every 5000 km. You don't need to pay $$$ for Royal Purple or Motul, it's not gonna make your car any faster or wear out your engine any less.
Update on Jimz D17... Decked the head a bit, higher compression, new head gasket and 12 hours of porting on the vtec valve ports.
Thanx to NoRedline for some killer skills with the porting tools.
We'll see timeslips on saturday @ Sanair.

Hopefully they will ship me another one if I don't get it by this friday... good consumer service!
I also ordered some PrecisionShift bushings from CapYoda, I will have a pretty good shifter set-up after that!

Good morning!
I didn't post much lately, a lot of work at the office plus the Honda Nation commercial kept me real busy over the last week. It's done now, I'll tell you guys how it was at a meet, in a short way now I can only describe it as unreal. The civic SI 06 production model is hot! +/- 80 sweet girls dancing, lights, music.
Got my civic back on thursday evening from NoRedline. Was I ever anxious to try it out after the port & polish work on the vtec valve ports. WOW! Am I pleased! I've never felt the vtec like this on a 7th gen. Not that it kicks in like a B18C or B18C5 but I mean you feel and hear the engine rev harder and faster from 4300 rpm. Hopefully tomorrow will not be rainy for some timeslips at Sanair. I wanna play in the 15's and whip some n.a. 7th gen. SIRs.
I'll try not to miss the meet on the 27th.

Does the production 06 si look like the concept one? Does it have skirts and does it sit low? Did you find it hotter than the 05 Type S?
Looks very much like the prototype model, even nicer body kit. Disc brakes front + back but not Brembo's (who cares...). Sits low on 17's, but the sweetest thing must be the sound of the K20A2. Sounds 350Z/G35ish.
I wouldn't qualify my setup as killer but it's fun. Should be even better with a clean K&N filter, I'm recharging it now, it was full of dried coolant and sh#t.

The VTEC on the D17a2 seems to be optimize for fuel economy.
But don't quote me on that....
Swapping the a2 head on the a1 should be a good mod (already done by some member here http://www.xproductionz.com/mycar/mycivic.wmv).
I'm starting the d17a1 vs d17a2 war again!!!!

Boo to war .. but well
I really won't get involved in it - as well
Lets speak of mods .. I'm ghetto modding it at the moment
Silly headlight bulb went out.. and well not sure if I want to replace and/or upgrade so using one cosmo blue + one regular halogen. Looks so wierd but its only temporary so
Anyone else having fun lately with their cars?

I want to see a base civic with no ameneties 14in steelies with the si gearbox.
I think its hard to churn out Hp gain from a engine which is primarily desinged to deliver economy. Its not like a K20A begging for more air.

Both the D17A1 and A2 blocks are the same, the heads are different as we know. I couldn't beleive that a stock 127hp, D17A2 vtec head (whether it's vtec-e or not), as less potential than a non-vtec, 108hp A1 head (knowing that hp difference comes from the head). The power formula is the same on all heads, more air flow, more fuel makes more power. Why would people swap A1 for A2 heads? Why would Crower devellop cams for A2's only?

In fact you may be right... I am not an expert... it's just stuff that I read somewhere...
I was in the believe that the a1 bottom was slightly different, or at least different compression...
Here is some quote from www.d-series.org:
"Im just saying that all around the D17A1 motor is a better performance motor. IE it responds better to mods plus has almost just as much power as the EX motor, plus it doesnt suffer from that crappy EGR"
"I do realize the a1 is initally better due to lower compression"...
Or this one when you wanna boost: "
a DX/LX with a an EX head benefits all other models when boosted... a DX/LX boosted has an advantage over EX cause the DX/LX has lower compression... the EX boosted benefits over the DX/LX cause it has the vtec lobes open up to let more air in.. so take the low compression of the DX/LX models and combine that with the EX vtec lobes for more air and u got a winning combination..."
But it may be just one guy that believe in is D17a1!!!

I love it!And now I have a dilemma... one guy on the CCQ is offering me some Tein S Tech spring... I don't know if they will sag on a sedan... some say no, some yes...
I don't have enough money to buy some shocks to go with them, so I will keep need to keep OEM ones.... good idea?? bad idea??? should be fine for the moment???
My first idea was to go with a pro-kit (just 1" drop) to have no problem during winter... but 1.3" is not that much more....
Well I still have to think about it!!!
Lower compression is definitely a benefit for spray or boost setups, not n.a. Would the piston domes on A1 and A2 be different? I'll have to check into that. I'm almost sure the compression difference comes from the height of the combustion chambers between both heads. Decking the head (plannage), raises compression by reducing the height, therefore the volume of the combustion chambers.
