What did you do to your civic today?
Re: What did you do to your civic today?
Went and got and AEM dry flow filter , did some research and found its
one of the better ones to run with a CAI set up. It really cleaned up the
engine bay i think and matches the valve cover n my new hoses lol
also made a rack for my ECU and remounted it as the previous owner had
it in a not so great spot.

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
Began the process of replacing the head gasket. Got all the hoses, wires, sensors, intake and exhaust manifolds, alternator, P/S pump, everything down to the valve cover off and or moved out of the way. Tomorrow I plan have the head off and on its way to the shop. I would like to say that I would NOT have attepmted this massive job without the information provided by the good folks on this forum. After I replace nearly everything that I have taken off of the Civic with OEM parts (another hat tip to good people here for that direction), I will have a practially new top half of my engine for less than half the cost of what a shop would have charged me WITHOUT replacing all the stuff I am. Because I know that I can find just about anything I need to know to accomplish this feat here, I am sure the job will be done right and as inexpensive as possible.

Hell yeah! I'm glad our forum could help you out and give you the confidence and information for you to tackle this job. I know when I did my HG, I did the job for about $300-400, and the dealership wanted to charge at least $1300.
If you need any help or guidance, feel free to post your questions.
edit: to contribute to this thread, I didn't do anything today, but Wednesday night, I kinda... made her break her leg.. and she messed up two of her shoes.. Did a quick survey of the damage, and it (hopefully) seems to be limited to passenger side inner CV joint, passenger side LCA, passenger side fender, 2 rims, and 1 tire. After my school semester's done, I'll start ripping apart the passenger side to get a better assessment of the damage.
If you're wondering what I did, I hit a curb going about 40-45. I thought I was in the turn lane for the freeway, but it ended up being a turn off for an RV park. Saw the curb too late, and I didn't have enough braking power to slow down enough to be able to turn to miss the curb. Tow truck driver said I wasn't the first person to do that, and, if my gf didn't know about my accident, she would have done the same in her Civic.

^ there is a lot of helpful people and info here. It has gotten a lot less active though.
@ RiceBoy
Glad to hear no one got hurt. Good luck with the repairs, hopefully there is not any structual damage.

Riceboy,
Your thread was one of the top three that that I have refered too in this project. I have them printed out and laying ON TOP of the engine as I type this, along with Chilton AND Haynes manuals. The last thing I want to do is screw this job up. Sorry to hear about your situation, but on a positive note, if you run into trouble fixing it, there is sure to be someone HERE that can help.

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
Thanks guys. I'm glad that my info/experiences still help you guys out. Unfortunately for me, I have finals coming up next week, so I'm not going to be able to tear into her until after the 14th. Good news that I failed to mention, though, is that after the accident, the engine was still running fine. My first indication of major damage was when I tried to move forward, and all it did was rev.
I did manage to snap some pics of the damage on the 29th. Hopefully FB direct image links work.. I think they do
Underside, positioned just forward of the tranny

Rear rim damage

Front rim exterior damage

and a little look at the FR LCA

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
Nope.. Definitely no bueno.
I'll get a better damage assessment when I can actually get around to tearing apart the front end. I'm staying reasonably optimistic.
Positive note, if I do, in fact, need a new tranny, I can get a factory-spec refurb from synchrotech-transmissions.com for $881 shipped, and all I have to do is call them to schedule a pick up of my old tranny. If I throw 'em an extra $50, I can get carbon synchros. Seeing as how they specialize in honda/acura race tranny's, I'm sure I can trust their work. Also, maxtierney used them for his crazy D17A7 (well.. d18, technically?) build, and he's said good things about them
We'll see, I guess

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
Man that really sucks.. On the bright side repairs should be easy depending on the transmission. Josh I think your luck with this car is almost as bad as mine was
Or getting there.
Or getting there. Re: What did you do to your civic today?
I installed new fog lights in my 99 civic ex. It was one for a minute then just went off. It keeps blowing the tail light fuse. The tail lights (at night with my lights one) only work when i press in the breaks. Along with my fogs and turn signals not working. Any ideas?

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
Been kinda MIA on the forums lately, but just thought I'd share that repairs on my car are underway. Here's the FR LCA compared to its replacement, which has been installed on the car already.

Managed to find a 2002 EM2 at the local pick-n-pull and grabbed an LCA and knuckle in great condition. They threw in the attached endlink, brake assembly, and strut assembly, free of charge, only issues with any of it were a shot compliance bushing and rubber boot within the strut assembly, the latter of which I'm not even remotely using. ES bushings were pulled from the old LCA and reinstalled on the new piece, and a new bearing for the knuckle should be here tomorrow.
One new rim I've received and had a replacement tire mounted, other rim/tire has been replaced with the "full-sized" spare I've had chillin in my dad's garage. New fender needs paint, and I'm awaiting a new driveshaft that should arrive with the wheel bearing. Reassembly, paint, and an alignment, and I should be good to go.

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
went to install an ebay CIA with a KN air filter to find the tubbing doesn't work very well with holding the air sensor module. Also the tubbing configuration isn't the best. So ordering a few more pieces and going to try to get it in this week. Left that big resonator box off the stock air intake for now. I'll post some more pics once I Frankenstein it together.
Re: What did you do to your civic today?
My stupid phone is being stupid, so no pics, but the head is not cracked. In fact, I think it was the egr valve gasket on the side of the head, because when I started taking the egr off, it popped loose, let out a hiss, then sent a ton of water out the closest exhaust port, hence why I thought the head was cracked.
Getting it all back together and should have it done by Thursday or Friday, since I will only have an hour or two in the evening to work on it. Here's hoping that the problem is solved.

Re: What did you do to your civic today?
So the problem with my motor was... I'm not sure... head gasket showed no sign whatsoever of failure, nor did the egr gasket (the only other thing it could be) BUT, the timing belt ended up being the ORIGINAL to the car!! :yikes: It was very nearly to the point of failure. Got the car back together and drove it around all day yesterday with zero issues. I think there may have been some Divine Intervention that saved my motor from catastrophic failure.
Pics:

Sorry I forgot to take a pic of the timing belt, it was pretty bad, and was an original Honda belt...
