I finished a conversion from an 8 valve head to a 16 valve...as soon as my new timing belt and adjustable cam gear gets here she'll be back on the streets

Re: What did you do to your civic today?

I have a love/hate relationship with this car, because when it runs right, it runs beautifully, but then it breaks. It'll go down the interstate nice and quiet and smooth at 70 mph all day, but it's at the age where everything is going to start breaking, and when I bought it to be a cheap, reliable car so I can throw money at my truck and turn it into my toy, breakage is not cool... oh well, you win some you lose some.

Re: What did you do to your civic today?

^ that's too bad....I read back through the thread abit and the HG is bummer but it seems to be a 7th gen thing....other than that though seems like just some hose clamps and a valve gasket...not too big of a deal. Most people find Civic's pretty reliable....maybe you're unlucky. I bought my '99 almost 4 years ago @ 100k miles and all I ever do is oil changes.

Re: What did you do to your civic today?

7th gens are just a shitstorm of problems once you start having problems.
Fix 1 thing, 4 others break.

98-01 was probably Honda's golden years.
Well, I mean the H series had oil burning issues, but other than that...

Re: What did you do to your civic today?

Hmmm...I always though 7th gens and up were lesser quality than older gens but GolNat pointed out he had 173k on his with little or no problems...sort of changed my opinion a bit.

Funny I've been seeing 6th gens around for super cheap lately...makes me want to buy another one.

A '99 w/100k miles for $2500 and a '99 w/130k miles for $1600...both coupes.

All my older ones '78,'79,'81 were oil burners...they all needed HG but other than that pretty solid cars....especially when you factor in MPG.

Re: What did you do to your civic today?

Well since 173k my timing belt tensioner broke, resulting in head damage. Also had a radiator leak. My fault for assuming the tensioner was done with the timing belt job at 90k. I'm at 182k now.

Maybe it's not that the newer ones are less reliable but more that they have more stuff that can go wrong.

That's really crappy. I have no idea if the previous owner did mine and I want to attempt it myself but I'm so freakin scared of the crank pully.

I changed from my winter winters to my summer winters today. Lubed the moving components of my double wishbone suspension while I was at it.

Buy the specialty tool, it will help. Crappy it was, cost me $1500 to fix, but it's running great. Would have attempted to fix it myself but the car was far from my house and I needed it ASAP.

Forgot to mention my AC crapped out on me. Not sure when but I turned it on the other day and I didn't hear the clutch engage and there was no cold air. Need to troubleshoot that soon.

There's something so optimistic about putting the summer winters on. It's like packing up the winter driving skills and looking forward to driving too fast with the windows down and tunes blasting.

Don't say that!

Yeah overall, the car seems solid still, just the head gasket was a pain in the *** to diagnose, but once I ruled out EVERYTHING else, the fix was quick and fairly easy. Then it was still leaking, figured that out. Now it's losing oil again, figured that out. Been running it for a week with no issues, and the fluids are staying where they should. Thank goodness.

Now the airbag light came on, have no idea why. The alternator is whining in the speakers when I have my mp3 player plugged in, the passenger side headlight is junk (good thing we're coming on to summer) and I noticed today that the clearcoat is starting to peel in a couple places. Me and a foam sanding block, newspaper, tape and some clearcoat paint are going to be friends this summer... And a cv clicks going around corners.

Oh well, it'll get me through this summer, then I can sell it.

Also, I was almost backed into by another Civic last night on my way home from work. Oddly enough, it's also a maroon 05 EX sedan. That would have been interesting on the police report: Maroon 05 Honda Civic collided with a maroon 05 Honda Civic

Re: What did you do to your civic today?

Had some old Alpine 6" speakers I had bought for a fiberglass project in my old truck that I never got around to using so I threw them in the back dash today. Wasn't too hard of a job.

comparison with dry rooted factory speaker.

Thanks and absolutely! I think I'm going to get some component speakers to go up front so I can get the tweeters off the floor. That way I can actually hear the lyrics while I have the windows down.

Forgot to post this while ago. Ran into this gem while I was out testing the sound.

Hey guy I have a 93 civic ex have Ben making slight mods to it by getting a secret weapon short ram intake and an aftermarket exhaust from my catalytic converter to my tail piping,

Having an issue now of when I'm idle it kinda sounds like it's. Hiccuping or not getting enough gas , still running fine just not on idle

Any ideas?

Could be air sensor from when you installed the short ram intake.

Is it rice when you're confirming that your car is exactly as fast as it looks? Well, I did whatever that is today.

Now whenever I get passed after a stop light, the other guy can marvel at my lovely D-series fuel economy! 300 miles down the road, we'll both know who the true victor really was.

Just did it today to the 95 civic! I first used a 250 lbs/ft electric impact gun with a torch and it wouldn't budge.

Items you need:
*18" worth of extensions (impact) I broke one when I was using standard extensions
*Honda Crank Holder
*Jack Stand to hold extensions (very important)
*A thick 1/2" ratchet (I had a 1/2" breaker bar but it was a little thin and flexed to much). My craftsman one worked best.
*1" diameter 6' lead pipe
*2x4 block of wood

Setup like this:

Name: IMG_3644_zps22ed4651.jpg
Views: 112
Size: 298.3 KB

Name: IMG_1318_zps678af077.jpg
Views: 113
Size: 317.1 KB

Then pull down on it with all your might. It makes a god awful sound when it finally breaks loose, I though I broke something. You feel like the man when your all done though

Yeah, I know they're usually put back there if there's room, but then again, you usually only see decals on the Si anyway.
PLUS, you get more HPs since it's closer to the engine. Everyone knows that.
