Rep Power: 97 Ktuner and the D17
I'm going to start logging my progress as a beta tester for HA Motorsports.
Here is the low down:
AEM cam gear
ECU (not a D17 ecu) with the Ktuner board installed
Direct conversion wiring harness
My D17A1 w/260,000 miles currently has the following little mods:
Cold Air intake (cheap *** one from ebay)
2.5" exhaust with 4" Coffee can (again cheap *** one from ebay)
Full header with no cat...(yup ebay)
ARP headstuds...(non-ebay!!!)
Innovate LC-2 wideband
Battery is relocated to the trunk
I recently took the engine out and wiped it clean.
Since the engine was out....i installed a new water pump, oil pump, all new gaskets, Gates racing timing belt, fx racing stage 3 clutch w/8.6lbs flywheel, drilled the oil pan for a turbo oil line return and capped it.
The plan is to help get this new alternative ecu running efficiently then slap on an ebay turbo. i have a new fuel pump and 660 cc injectors ready to play with the turbo...

This Ktuner setup has been pretty easy to use since the get go.
The harness was plug and play.
Matt from HA Motorsports and I, have been sending back and forth tunes, logs and personal feedback for the past few weeks.
The first hurdle we overcame was hooking up the LC-2 02 sensor in the wiring harness and getting Ktuner to read it.
We eventually spliced it in the new harness at E15 (wire leading into new ecu).
This is read by Ktuner as an ELD analog input. Ktuner is currently working on a patch to allow direct serial logging with the LC-2. They do have settings for other setups, but as of now we have to use the E15 pin.
This still works great.
When i'm driving and recording logs, i have the laptop plugged into the ecu via usb cable and then have Torque running on my phone so i can watch the digital water and air temps. I would love to see torque be able to pick up the E15 signal so i can watch the 02 rather than peaking down at the laptop...if anyone know how this can happen please pm me.

The latest tune Matt sent over is getting the fuel tables pretty close to spot on.
We are running a bit on the lean side during low load areas and just a bit on the rich side for 75% throttle to WOT. I like being rich....
Anyways, after the fuel is set, we will start chasing down the starting issue i'm having.
The engine sometimes starts right up and other times it takes 2-3 cranks with or without a backfire then cranks up. This is just a timing/injector setting which shouldn't take too much time to figure out.
Were hoping to have the NA D17A-1 base tune set within a week....then it's on to my turbo build.

I have an A-2 head sitting on top of my parts washer. Matt wanted to get a base tune for the A-1 first.
Heck, i have another complete A-1 with 225k miles on it in my garage. That's why i'm thinking about putting a roll cage in my civic and go NASA racing.

Went to Brake Check over the weekend and got the lifetime alignment...Basically whenever i add new mods to my suspension it costs me 3 bucks for them to fix my pseudo alignments!

hrm.. I know in the past it was an issue, mostly with the d17a2, but people had issues fitting in intercoolers with the inlet and outlet on opposite sides. My boost setup had the inlet/outlet on the same side for that very reason

Another thing people have done is route the plumbing from the driver's side (ic inlet) across the front bottom of the IC, then around the passenger side to make it all fit. I think it was AC plumbing that got in the way. If you dont have AC, then carry on, my friend

I take it you tried and realized the IC piping wouldn't go around the drivers side? Lol

I actually did throw around the idea of no intercooler, then a budy of mine running a 900 hp turbo S-10 talked me out of it...
Anyways, the oil lines are installed and waiting on the last few couplers to come in. I'm hoping to have it started by Thursday evening!!

Does anyone have any good diagrams showing how to properly hook up the vacuum lines?
I have a vacuum box which will be coming off the brake booster.
I have a mechanical boost controller.
The wastegate has an upper and lower fitting..
Obviously the turbo has a fitting and the bov has one.
The pipe after the bov going towards the TB has two...

Re: Ktuner and the D17
As far as the boost controller lines go. It goes like this. WG Actuator Port-->>>Boost Controller-->>Pressure Port on Compressor
The other port on your Wastegate will vent to the atm.
Hope this helps. Added an image attached.

Need a vacuum manifold? Lol. I have a golden eagle one laying around I think
Edit: when tapping your brake booster line, make sure you're upstream (engine side) of the check valve. You can feel it by physically feeling around for it.

Well....good news and bad news...
Good news:
It started up and ran
Bad news:
center nut in turbo came loose during test drive and broke some fins...
OK news:
i don't think the broken parts made it to the engine...it still ran fine.
After vacation next week, i'm gonna pull all the plumbing apart, the intake, and possibly the head to make sure no metal made it to the engine...

geeze, I know ebay turbos are lowly regarded but I've never heard of the nut coming off. lol I'm interested in knowing which kit you bought. I've had 2 on my ebay watch list for about a year and haven't pulled the trigger.

I bought a T3/T4 second hand...the guy said he only ran it for a few miles.
I believe him when inspecting the kit. I think it's just one of those flook things.
I've emailed the company and asked what my options are.
I honestly don't think it will be an expensive fix.
