Only starts with crank sensor UNPLUGGED, 2005 civic ex

I had just recently finished up a valve job on the d17a2 head, put everything back together started car ran codes and had crank sensor code which I then realized that it was broken and not plugged in ( free hanging in bay)due to my timing belt breaking and hitting it. So I replaced the sensor with an aftermarket one and no start whatsoever just cranks. I figured that the sensor was bad or bad connection so I had another oem sensor off a donor civic same gen, and plugged it in and same thing just cranks. I unplugged the sensor completely and car starts up every time. I am stumped and would appreciate any help!

get a new denso or NTK sensor.
Hondas hate aftermarket sensors.

The wires and connectors seem to be fine, I’m not to sure but my logic is the wires and plug should be fine because when I install the sensor and have it plugged in it keeps cranking and will not start but as soon as I unplug it it will start, so am I just getting a false reading on the crank because of the sensor. I’m not sure

I cannot find the thread now, but at one point someone found some of the teeth broken off the crankshaft timing gear. The teeth that the crankshaft sensor reads.

I had thought that it reads where it sits in the block it doesn’t seem like it reads the little teeth

The sensor reads the teeth sticking out from the crankshaft timing belt pulley. I wish I could find that thread. Maybe @sdaidoji remembers?

I searched for a good 30 minutes and couldn't find them. I knew you kept the weird ones in a post but couldn't find it either
