ill go for stick for autox'ing and road races....but i alsi like automatics because they have consistent times at bracket racing(i know i did..ehehehe)....anyway a stick and broke the tranny(tranny did not hold up to the power of the motor/my escort) but stick/shifting is a 2nd nature to anyone who knows and races/drives often(unless there was no other car that you drove)......

Automatic was a scam.
-Its slower than manual
-It weighs more with it than with a manual transmission
-It's transmission will not last as long.
-Your fuel economy is not as good
How come no one in Europe likes auto(Please don't mention the new merks)

I still don't understand how an auto makes the car slower. It's the same car, same engine, and same everything. I can rev each gear to past 6k rpms when it's floored.
That extra weight isn't gonna cost that much of a power loss.
True the autos have a problem holding up, but alot of members have already had their clutch go out.
I got 38mpg on my last road trip. That's higher than what some manuals get.

How does an auto work,
Can you be cruising at low revs and just floor your car and get instant response. Does your car drop to the right gear.
In a manual you could be crusing in low rev's and you can instantly rev match and drop to a lower gear and be in high rev's.
How does it work when you turn, you can't do heel toe, but can you shift to the lower gears like 1 or 2.
Auto is 4 speed and manual is 5 speed, there is already an advantage there.
The civic is my first manual car and I feel I have more control over the car because its manual. In terms of being faster than auto, I guess you have to be a good driver. When your shifting a manual transmission your loosing time at least I am. From 0-60 its about constant acceleration, when your shifting your not accelerating which is taking time away from you reaching 60. So does an Auto Switch gears faster?
When you floor an auto Civic are the gear changes smooth?

They might have the same red line but a manual has 5 gears. In a manual civic first gear is redlined in about 2.5 seconds. In an auto it prob about 4. Mostly because the manual can launch at a higher rpm. You could prob get out of first gear faster.
When you accelerating fast the difference between a good driver and a fast one is one get off the clutch very quickly with out the tires spinning. Then the same process occurs when ur shifting. You can't put any power to the ground if the clutch is depressed.
Not too mention taht drivng an auto is so damn boring, and requires only the skill of just driving. Manual is eye hand and foot coordination.
And in europe you can't rent a car unless its a manual. i have been twice and they don't even offer automatics.

yeah but its still slower then even the bmw auto let alone a real manual. Auto looses power in the torque converter. Auto also doesnt alow you to hold a gear positivly (even the new audi one) this can be a real big problem for cornering. If my changed gears on me in the middle of a fast downhill corner it would affect the ballance of the car dramaticly, that could lead to a crash. The place where auto is really nice is in dragracing. With the right setup and the right tunning you can get very consistant performance from a auto, much more so then from a manual.
they are also pretty nice for just screwing around in cities and stuff.
WONT THIS THREAD EVER DIE!!!!
