yea i'd have to say manual... especially when its a girl cuz that really does make her 10 times hotter seriously. Plus with manual, u have all the fun you want in the snow. burnouts and e brake drifting in the snow make it all worth driving a manual.
Manual, never going back to auto.
It's not so much the lack of control that pisses me off as it is the LAG.
I met a chick once who drove a Type-R....stick.....on tracks.....in heels
she was taken

i would honestly murder myself if I drove an auto. I learned on my dad's explorer (auto) and now when I drive it I literally fall asleep I'm so bored...you cant have any fun in an auto.

I was gonna get an auto but the dealer kinda talked me out of it, he said get the manual its way more fun and its like a grand cheaper so i was like yeah I probably would regret getting the auto down the road so I got some lessons from my dad and when my car was delivered to the dealership I got some lessons from the sales guy and Im happy as hell I didnt get auto, so basically I went in never driving a manual drove out in my new 5spd.
that sucks. Luckily my mom is a HUGE fan of sticks...she learned on one, and every single car she's ever had has been one. She thinks "they're safer, because you have more control over the car." THat's true, because on an automatic, I FRIGGIN FALL ASLEEP! Anyways, I got lucky. Got lucky with a civic too
I had an auto lx 01 civic coupe. Was fun to mob around in but when its time to get serious I alwase got left in the dust
Only reason why I got an auto was because my parents didnt want me to. Well, about a year and a half later, i made the decision that since i pay for my car I should decide what it should be. So I practiced stick on various cars that my friends loaned me for about an hour of lessons all together and picked up a type s the next week
. Was pretty rough the first week considering ive never driven stick before other than the lessons but after getting broken in by traffic I was okay. You learn to drive really quickly in stop and go traffic.

Is it hard to learn a manual? Cause for right now I'm driving my mom 04 4runner v8 auto. I'm afraid of stalling or misshifting and crash or something...Is it hard to learn?
no, its really easy. You'll go out a few times in like a parking lot and learn...and you'll be like "i'll never learn this damn thing!" and then the next time you go out it just clicks, and you learned. Thats how it happened with me anyways.
however, when you're in a manual, be careful when its raining and your tires are bald and you're stopped going up a steel hill with some ignorant jack@ss 2 inches behined you..yeah that happened to me yesterday, it sucked. My wheels slipped for like 10 seconds.
I have a 5 speed used to have an auto..I love the 5 speed but sometimes you get bored of it and just wanna go and not have to worry about shifting..but I don't regret getting the 5 speed..It's fun..There isn't a major difference between the two either..at least none that I've found a major difference..5 speed could get the auto off the line but it just depends what you have..
I drive manual. I like to be able to control my shift points. Plus, driving in the snow and on ice sometimes it helps to have that engine compression to slow your car down with. I don't have to do that much thick heavy traffic city driving, but I have been through downtown Chicago and it sucked more *** than a leech on a donkey. My sister lives in Chicago and actually had to have surgery because of scar tissue in her heel caused by excessive use of the clutch. Now she happily drives an automatic. So...I guess it depends on driving conditions to determine which one is better. I'll always drive manual cuz it's mo funner...plus I have a reason that my girlfriend can't borrow my car.

my 2001 civic was an auto and although at first it was nice (it was my first car and i only had like a year of driving experience) it quickly became quite boring. Well as luck or bad luck would have it someone rear ended me really bad and my car got totalled, so upon looking for a new car i decided to get a 2002 civic manual. i pick it up this tuesday
I have an automatic. I have no regrets buying it. I drove a manual civic. It's nice but when racing, you run more consistent times. Just press the gas and go. I think you can buy a chip to set your rev meter but i'm not for sure. I can get to redline in my automatic 01 civic. Just hit the gas hard and your off.

I hope to learn fast too. I'm happy that my friend said that i'm out of the beginning stage where i stall constantly. Now at least i know to relax and just gas it and let the clutch out. I hopefully, i'll soon be able to find that friction zone and then let the clutch out, gas it and then go instantly.
just dont get into the habit of giving it too much gas...like a few months after I learned I got into this habit of spinning my wheels....on literally every start. My mom got really pissed. Now my dad is going to have to make me pay for tires, because "he is not going to support my bad driving habits." I dont do it anymore, but I turn fast and accellerate/decellerate fast, so I guess he has a point. Anyway, this post was completely pointless so just ignore it (except you already read it, hahaha!)

yup im in the process of learning as well, man my dads a crazy teacher hes telling me all these fansy techniques that i dont understand. ah well im getting used to it now, takes a few days luckily there is a huge church parking lot where i live thats perfect for learning.
on a side note my dad was telling me this technique to pump the clutch while its in second after you stall and it will start the car back up. I didnt even know what the hell he was talking about but he showed me a couple times. eh i guess i'll learn in due time.

Manual all the way! I hate the idea that I can't shift for myself. Going up hills suck waiting for your car to shift, and going down hills you really don't get any engine braking.

Cant do that with an automatic.
(Side note, thats how we start up the shifter karts (125 or 250cc)
i love my auto. i never really plan on racing. traffic would suck huevos if i had manual. and its nice to be able to have one hand on the steering wheel and one around a girl :-p
also.... anyone ever buy fast food and the cup is too small for the cup-holder? auto drivers have a free hand to save the car from spillage.
on the down-side autos dont respond quickly to throttle. its like it wants to think about it for a second first. :: slush box
there is no better between the two.... its a matter of what you need it for :-p

I myself have auto and I do wish for a manual simply cause it is more fun, but I can be lazy so it's not all that bad. What would be nice for performance wise is if they would just put a 5spd auto tranny in instead of 4 like they do overseas, but it's in the 2.0 civic (not hatch). Wish they'd release the 2.0 civics here and have the hatch too but hey you can always swap I guess.

Bump start:
Switch on the ignition and release the handbrake. Put into third gear and hold the clutch pedal fully down while someone push the car along at a brisk walking pace. Once momentum has been achieved let in the clutch sharply, and providing there is nothing else wrong, the engine should start.
