Having owned a sport compact car with an automatic and it being on the 3rd transmission before I traded it in on my 04 Civic, I can only say I will never buy another Automatic FWD sport compact car again. They just don't hold up to the pressure of my heavy foot and my desire for autocrossing.

I thought the ex's have 127hp and the lx and the dx only have 116 or something...maybe I'm wrong.

You were going somewhere with this and it seemed you were about to make a point. Then you completely drop making a point and say "stick is better"
Did you just run out of time to make your point or forget what your point was?!

honestly i forget what i as saying cause im at work. sometimes i have to get up and go do something right of in the middle of a post.. i think what i as trying to say is there is no point in having a honda 4 cylinder engine in auto.. no respond in the car at all.. but a least with the stick i have way more control of the car.. from speeding up to slowing down. I just feel if you got a honda gotta be stick.. now if i spend about 60 to 80 grand on a car and it a luxuary car.. gotta be auto.. but and car that i want as a sports car ..stick all the way..
Nice response! I completely understand you being at work. Thats why I made the crack about running out of time.
I chose an automatic because honestly I did not know how to drive a stick well. I have driven a few vehicles that were stick and it just seemed like too much effort for long commutes.

once i learn how to drive a stick. i will get a car that is a stick. my car is a manual and its kinda slow. my friend and i have the same model cars EX his a stick and mine is manual and we raced his car was much faster. soon i'll be getting a stick. they are a lot more fun to drive.

... Stick and Manual are two names for the same thing... Just like Standard
Stick, Standard, manual all reference a Transmissin with a clutch and manual gear changes.
you'r talking about Automatic

The control you have over the car seems to be much greater when you are drive a standard. If you have an auto, you tend to zone out or use your phone alot more cause you always have one free hand; unless you can drive stick with one hand, which isnt to hard, just awkward.
My car was a surprise from my parents and it's auto. Auto is boring, my old car was manuel, it sucked in stop and go traffic but other then that I loved it. Waiting for my car to shift gears for me is really annoying. Stop and go traffic is the only time I truely appriciate it. They both have pros and cons but to me standard is so much better.
I guess I just really know my car. I can make my automatic shift when I want by the way I accelerate and let off the gas. It might be nice to have a little more control for racing purposes, but I race 2% of the time and drive normally 98%.
I might try a manual in the future just to see what all the rave is about. However I have a feeling I will be disappointed in the long run because of my long commutes.

long commutes arent bad in a manual as most long trips are in 5th gear anyways.....the thing ppl complain most about is traffic....i find it kinda fun to drive in traffic..except when there are ppl in front of me
manual vs automatic
long drives are better with autos, easier on the foot. but now that some of these new manuals are coming with cruise control i guess that makes it easy too. but your right most people do complaine about the traffic. and here in MO we have some bad drivers with no patience.

"The life of an automatic transmission is inversely proportional to the size and weight of the driver's right foot!" --My tranny mechanic after my Camry was pronounced dead.
I can't believe nobody else has referenced this one...
If you want to save money on maintenance, and have a car that last for-ev-er (Cue sandlot voice), get a stick, because the maintenance is going to be a clutch. On a hard-driven auto car, the first thing to really go will probably be either the timing belt or the tranny.
My last car was a V6 Camry, had 220K on it, and I used synthetic oil one it. Engine was immaculate and worth the down payment on my Civic. Why did I junk the car? Auto Tranny.
Tranny 1 died at 140K. Tranny 2 at 220K. Second one would have been 2200 bucks to fix.
I will always buy a stick, because you'll get your clutch done once every 120K, and it'll be a couple hundred bucks. The tranny will still be decent. Not so with an auto... And you gotta love engine braking, slowing down for the cop without your brake lites going on, and peeling out.
