alignment question
alignment question
Went to a bunch of shops to get my car aligned, but none can do it because of my wheels. I finally found a place that can, but they want $140. Would it matter if i put stock wheels on the front, got it aligned, then put my 17s back on? Just replaced my control arm, wheel doesnt quite straighten out when i let go and go straight..the car doesnt really pull much at all, but the wheel is like cocked about a 1/2"-1" to the right. Very annoying. Is there anything i can do to fix that besides alignment? Not even sure if i need one

Re: alignment question
I have that exact combo installed. we had a camber tool (basically a level with a magnet on one end) for the front and the wheel was perfectly straight and camber straight in the front after the drop. Camber is off a little in the rear and I am getting tons of wheel hop, like dangerous if i hit a bump. It was handling great until about a week after the drop. Wonder if toe in combined with camber could cause that.
Re: alignment question
When installing suspension just loosing a bolt can change alingment. Alingments dont stick normaly cuse of all the varibles in the suspension rubber bushings, worn bushingsleeves, weak springs ect. But the reason why some shops cant aling your car is because of the 17's some shops have older alingment racks and are not equiped for bigger than normal wheels and truthly most shops wont want to do alingments cuse they are afraid of damaging your wheels soo they will just decline you. Sorry good luck with your alingment!!!!
Re: alignment question
All the wheels should be the same sizes when doing an alignment, especially on the newer alignment machines that use infared light(like Hunter alignment machines). If you change your rim size you should always get an alignment.
Re: alignment question
it almost feels like the nut under the support arm that i just replaced is too tight, and if i loosen it a tiny bit it be more aligned with the other side, thats why i think my wheel is cocked to the right. ill try to fix it in the morning, if not then alignment.
Re: alignment question
well, my steerin wheel was crocked to the right ...i got my alignment done today... the guy have to adjust both side to make it "o" therefore, steerin wheel crocked to the right is not just affect by the camber IN MY CASE.

as for the OP: camber wont affect the angle of your steering wheel so long as the toe is within spec. Ive never heard of a shop turning down an alignment for some 17's. even the old Hunter machines were capable of atleast 19" wheels. 17's have been a fairly common size for many years now.
