Vibration when warm from stop - fine when cold
Vibration when warm from stop - fine when cold
Hello everyone,
I tried the search and went through a couple hundred posts that went back a few years and I didn't see anything that quite matched what I am going through. I have an 09 hybrid with less than120k miles. The car drives great when cold, no issues other than an underwhelming amount of power. But obviously there's a problem or I wouldn't be posting here so here goes.
Problem: Vibration from a stop when I am get moving, typically around 5PMH, it stops around 12MPH.
Observations about this problem:
- It only happens when it's warm. Typically I can start the car in the morning and drive it a few miles before it starts to do this except I noticed on super hot days it happens very slightly even when I first start it. So definitely when it's warm it's there but not when it's cold.
- It's a vibration that is only felt and heard inside. I look around and no one seems to notice the vibration. I have come to a stop next to a wall (so I could hear it), rolled down my windows, and the vibration noises seem to be from the inside of the car, no noticeable noise outside the car from the vibration.
- It is typically from 5-10MPH only but I've noticed sometimes it can start at 3PMH and sometimes it can go till 15PMH. Of course 15MPH sucks on a hill with the underwhelming amount of power these have, it can last a full minute in those situations.
- The engine RPM doesn't seem to dip or fluctuate at all, I've looked for this specifically.
- It's been getting worse since I first noticed it, it was very slight at first and I didn't think much of it other than a road condition possibly. But over the past few months it's undeniable.
Edited: - There is not any CEL at all on the car.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? I assume it's something with the transmission as the engine seems fine without any weird noises or other vibrations at other times.
Thank you in advance for your suggestions and I hope you have a great day!

lift
inspect
if nothing found, try running car with front wheels jacked up. Jack safely. Or get a shop to do this in their lifts

Re: Vibration when warm from stop - fine when cold
Could it only happen when it's warm? That's the only time it happens which made me think it couldn't be something physical like this because it's only once the engine and transmission is warm. If it's a cold start or reverse then it doesn't happen.
