CVT Transmission Stopper/Plug
CVT Transmission Stopper/Plug
2015 Honda Civic LX 1.8 L engine
Just finishing up on the transmission oil and filter. I got to the point of putting the funny looking, almost marine looking plug or stopper than goes into the hole that is used to add fluid. For those of you what read the other thread about a hole in the top of the transmission, no, it was not a transmission dip stick hole.
There is no fluid checking dip stick on these transmissions. There are 3 holes. One in the bottom lowest spot of the lower pan, one in the side (to the front of the car), which is the check level hole, if fluid runs out, you know it is full, and one at the top, one the top, as pictured in the photo in the other thread.
In that top hole there is supposed to be a stopper. It is a rubber plug with a wire handle, L shaped out of the top of it, that plugs the hole.
Mine fits extremely loose which makes it no wonder that I usually find it laying on the top of the trans, and not in the hole.
I'll order a new one today, but it doesn't appear worn or anything.
Any ideas?

Re: CVT Transmission Stopper/Plug
The vent on the trans is plugged which is why that keeps popping out. Either clean the vent or replace it.

Re: CVT Transmission Stopper/Plug
I'm glad to see some action on this thread.
I haven't looked at this thing since then. I regularly check oil and water and tires, and think about power steering fluid (electric).
But I forgot about that plug and vent.
There is no dipstick. The idea is open the side bolt to check the level. I think it's also the fill hole, no, maybe the fill hole is the top hole.

Re: CVT Transmission Stopper/Plug
So I had this problem today but the car has had a couple of hundred miles on it since we saw some oil dripping from it. Very slow drip so it didn't alarm anyone at first. But this morning, the CVT clunked a couple of times so I had to check it and found the filler cap off. Cleaned the vent and put the cap back on but now I'm worried about the trans. I'm going to have someone do a full flush on it tomorrow morning and hopefully it'll be ok. Anyone have a similar experience and have the trans crap out or is pretty much ok with a full flush? The car actually doesn't have that many miles on it as a 2015 model; something like 42,000 miles which is pretty good in general. Any thoughts?
