Replacing Driver Side Axle?

So I ripped my driver side outer axle boot and decided to get a new axle. Should I get a new transmission seal or not worry about it? It appears bone dry now in axle area but car is close to 18 yrs old with 205k mi.

Will axle come out of hub by only unbolting the strut without doing ANYTHING else? Because I did see a vid where a guy did it that way but he removed the brake caliper along with doing that. I'm assuming caliper has to come off due to brake hose not having enough length when tilting wheel hub down +away from strut? In video he didn't remove ball joint from control arm either and I definitely don't want to touch ball joint since lately I've torn a couple boots while doing other work.

Thanks for the help!

Yeah you need to replace the seal, unbolt the strut and the caliper and that should give you enough room

Re: Replacing Driver Side Axle?

I'm having trouble finding what the seal is called. Some just say 'oil seal' or ' transmission output seal' and others call it a transaxle seal??? I'm replacing driveside axle so need the name or part # of whatever seal is needed where axle goes into auto transmission on 1.7L engine. Thanks!

Re: Replacing Driver Side Axle?

Find an online Honda parts dealer (like HondaPartsNow.com) and input your vehicle info. Axle seal is going to be somewhere in the transmission section so you go start looking at diagrams until you find it. In this case, it is in the "AT Torque Converter Case" section. Reference 10 below, part number 91205-PL3-A01. It can be a little difficult to find the right section but the more you do it, the easier it gets.

Thanks for the help! I usually can find parts this way but this particular one gave me trouble. Because from the diagram I still couldn't be sure what seal I needed and it's referred to as different names like 'oil seal, 'tansaxle seal', 'outputshaft seal' etc. Just found one on ebay for 10 shipped so order is in!
