New leak after oil pan [solved]
New leak after oil pan [solved]
So I took off and replaced the oil pan following the directions in an old thread. I now developed a trans fluid leak. After it’s hot and off a steady slow drip happens near the trans shift cable housing, which had to be removed to get off the oil pan.
Is there a gasket or O ring in this vicinity someplace I may have missed or some sealant that needs to be reapplied? I find it VERY odd to go from no leak to a steady drip without even touching the trans. Was there an o ring on the shift lever? I dont remember seeing one.
yes the dipstick is in all the way and the coolant hoses are fine. I cleaned everything on top and nothing is bad. It’s only showing underneath at the shift cable housings and a little on the flat part of the trans.
EDIT: it’s oil not trans fluid.
Dang Hondabond job didn’t work out. Got a fresh tube.
I read in the manual to apply the goo to the block, but getting it up in there by the torque converter is not so easy, and that’s where it looks like it failed.
any pointers are welcome.

re: New leak after oil pan [solved]
I put it on the pan. Seems ok and easier that way. If I have to do it again I suspect it would be smart to let the pan set overnight while the Hondabond set, and THEN redo the pan brackets. Those brackets have close tolerance which seems to compress the Hondabond a little more than I would like.
The weakest spot is the ring around the rear main seal. Really hard to clean in there and to put just the right amount of pressure to set the goo.
