Oil Pan Leaks With New Gasket and Pan
Oil Pan Leaks With New Gasket and Pan
Car : 2003 Honda Civic EX VTEC
After replacing the oil pan, oil pan gasket and using a 1 hour cure time RTV where the casting meets on four sides and some in the four corners of the curved part I have a leak catty-corner where the casting lines are. That is driver side front of the car and passenger side towards the rear of the car on the pan.
I torqued the bolts to 10 Nm in three passes 6N*m, 8 N*m and 10 N*m. I used the tighten from inside to out pattern.
What I suspect. The RTV was not enough? My torque wrench is not correct. This is not a problem since I have multiple. My oil pan is not true or the bottom of the engine is very off.
I would like to know the part number for an OEM oil pan gasket. Should I use Hondabond instead? Should I place the silicone gasket on both sides of the rubber gasket?

Look here for OEM part #

OEM gasket is always best. I would replace all gaskets and use Hondabond.

Dont use a gasket.
-drain oil
-remove pan
-dry both sides with shop towel
-use degreaser on both sides
-remove degreaser with alchohol spray
-rtv the entire pan lip, make sure to loop inward around the bolt holes
-install oil pan, finger snug.
-let sit 24 hours
-torque to spec.

mac25, thnanks for the instructions. After calling the dealership searching for this gasket. They said the EX model has no gasket. This make sense why I could not find an OEM gasket online only various aftermarket gaskets. The person I spoke to said they use Hondabond on the oil pan. Thanks for the helping everyone.

Yeah, OEM gasket on the D17A2 (01-05 ex engine) is just a bead of RTV (hondabond) on the mating surface of the block to the pan. Last time I took off the oil pan on my 2002, I just used some permatex minute gasket and it sealed just fine. The most fun part is making sure you get all the old gasket material off
