Yeah, on the histogram the highlights and lowlights have small peaks. I am just getting into photography as a hobby, so I only really know what I have read in the books I have downloaded. Wish I would have read this earlier, I just bought a Canon 75-300mm USM lens a couple days ago off ebay.
Getting that dog to stay still for more than 2 seconds is a feat in itself though. It doesn't like cameras very much, which is why I didn't use any kind of flash.

Yea low lighting is hard to get perfect without a tripod. I have the 75-300 too but i don't like it. I got it for a really cheap price brand new from someone so i went for it. Def wanna upgrade to the Canon 70-200 F4L at the least or maybe even getting the 70-200mm F/2.8L. The 75-300 has trouble focusing and it's slow to focus so shooting quicker stuff is a hard thing to accomplish. Good luck

Thanks. I can hardly afford the $130 I paid for it right now, perhaps when I get a real job I'll be able to get some of the lenses I want.
Anyway, the lens just got here and I am pissed. It was shipped in no padding except a buble wrap lined envelope. Nothing to keep it from moving around, no more padding, and no plastic baggie to keep moisture out! WTF
I put it in a plastic baggie right away cause it was cold and starting to condense so hopefully that will help, I don't know if it is too late or not. :\

If you wanna learn about photography, get on Canon Digital Photography Forums - Powered by vBulletin Great place to learn everything. And also you were correct with leaving it in a ziplock bag. Let everything warm up for an hour or so and then you can take it out, should be ok.
