Not really that much of a leak, Since Canon themselves have just announced it in the newsletters

Re: new photography thread
Okay, I don't know the legitimacy of this as the guy has 0 feedback, but it's a $400 lens for $100

And well, it's covered by ebay protection...
So i bit the bullet and jumped on it.
7 left, if anyone's interested

Re: new photography thread
I want to get into photography so I can take some nice pictures of my car instead of having to wait for my friend with his DSLR. I don't want to spend TOO much. This will be my first camera, EVER, but I don't want it to look cheap. Looking to spend $200-$300. Ideas?

Re: new photography thread
That budget is kinda in between ultrazooms and DSLRs
I'd bump up your budget a little and try to get a used Canon XS or XSi, and invest in a decent lens for
~$500 total

Re: new photography thread
Just a little bit of fun with Christmas lights, a home made bokeh filter (with a soshinoya pattern), and an f/1.4

getting the subject in focus just right is hard as hell with that f/1.4, but I was aiming more to get the bokeh pattern effect.

Damn man, I'm jelly of you and the Bokeh. I got my Canon 50mm 1.4 and picked up the Cokin P filter holder + gel holder. I also picked up a sheet of glass, a glass cutter, and ordered black Con-tac paper on amazon. I've been planing this project for months, but just finally got all my supplies mid week. Today I'm going to cut the glass to fit the filter holder and then apply the contact paper and use an Xacto knife to cut my shapes, slide it in the filter holder and Bokeh here I come.

Re: new photography thread
Well, the glass cutting was a major fail. Its impossible to get a straight line with the crappy picture frame glass I used... Oh well. Ialso have the gelatineholder, so I might try cutting out in construction paper and sliding it in

This thread died but I am going to bump it anyway!
Just started getting into photography after looking at threads like this on various sites and wanting to start getting more advanced with camera settings. I recently bought a dSLR so that I could start learning the process. I did not realize how much went into photography but I am finding it very fun!
I have had my camera for about 3 weeks and have been taking it everywhere so that I can practice. I thought I was able to get some good shots:

Re: new photography thread
I'm shooting with a Samsung Mirror-less NX1000 with the kit lens (20-50mm). Those pics did require some iPhoto editing. I am very pleased with the way the camera has been though, it will be a good intro camera for me before stepping up into a more expensive Nikon or Canon.
I plan on getting a few lenses for it at some point (telephoto and prime).

Re: new photography thread
Ha,
What really sucks is I just upgraded my equipment right before I fell into the
"I don't know what I want to take pictures of anymore. I'm too lazy to go out and shoot" mode.
Got a Canon 7D and new 18-55mm STM Kit lens.
This new kit lens is the best one out, ultra fast focus, silent, and tack sharp.

Yea that does suck!
That is a nice looking setup you have there! You definitely need to get out and use that bad boy. Sometimes I try too hard to look for things to take pics of, when all I really need to do is wait for something to catch my eye. Hoping to get a new lens around Christmas time. Still have not decided on a 50-200mm or 45mm 1.8.

Re: new photography thread
Some tips:
Learn to get yourself out of your shot, including reflections and shadows.
Use polarizers, tripods, or shoot at an angle, but try to get out of the shot as much as possible.
Try not to use as harsh flash, bounce the flash off something; a ceiling, a wall or something.
The natural lighting off the left looks great, but the flash at the top right is way too harsh and artificial.
But great idea to throw leaves onto everything.
Here are some of my latest works, been doing a lot of cityscapes.

Re: new photography thread
Thanks for the tips man! I thought something was a little off on the pic and after you mentioned the lighting I could see it. I didn't use a flash, that's a lamp but a flash probably would have been better. I need to get some filters also.
Those pics you took are awesome!!! The bridge one is probably my favorite. I'm not ready for night time shooting yet, still need to practice more daytime stuff.
