Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
Newegg is great, I am trying to keep some life in the 939 system I gave my girl so I bought a opteron 180 dual core from the egg. She is happier than anything. I just got the 2 gig set for my macbook today and an external HD encloser that looks mac like...for 60 bucks (that is minus the 50 gift cert I got yesterday.) So, my Christmas is lasting all week with deliveries pretty much.

here's one for example:
http://www.dot.gov/affairs/nhtsa4304.htm
there's many more out there if you search. but that's NHTSA. that's national. not any state, so that means all states.

maybe they just dont email their customers. i bought some red lug nuts off someone on ebay and i never got a tracking number email or anything. this was about a week ago. i even emailed them to get some info, and got no response. as i was filling out the dispute form thing with paypal, i see their phone number and call them. they said they sent it out on the 20th. it probably just got delayed cuz of the holidays. hopefully they come in the next couple of days, or im gonna have to get my $$$ back through paypal.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
either that or they don't want to lose customers by failing them.. course, they COULD lose their state inspection license
My kit is great, I never have anyone flash me at all or anything, I think I'm just gonna stick w/ this setup, and not retro it..

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
so? they'll still work. you know the differences between the 2 as well as i do. that extra adjustment on the sedans won't get you much on a retro where the reflector is all tore up. the reflector may be permanently immobilized anyway when they mount the projectors.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
i need the extra adjustment. almost every oem light they do keeps the stock reflector adjusters functional so thats what i aim them with. having horizontal aim is very useful with retrofit. and i dont feel like buying more crap from the dealer to make the parking lights and signal work.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
Pictures of my hotspots are on hold for now. I am waiting on my harness to come in. The ballasts I got are heavy and feel like they are constructed well. I guess time will tell as far as that goes. I'll get the pictures up as soon as I get the rest of the wiring in. In the mean time, anybody have pictures of wear they mounted their ballasts?

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
you can see my fog light ballasts in my fog light link in my sig. my low beam ballasts are laying on top of my harness on the pass side and zip-tied to something on the driver side. both right behind the headlights. you don't have a whole lot of options since the ballast-to-bulb wires are not very long. personally i kind of like not having them hard mounted. makes things easier to do when you need to change something. they don't flop around though the way mine are.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
I was actually thinking of going to zip tie route for that reason. Now what I am trying to figure out is the best way to get the wiring right and still have that rubber seal on the TYC's. Might have to make some holes I guess. Oh and thanks for the PM bro.
Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
Finally came around to installing the 55w hids in my current e46 setup and they are indeed brighter. They make the e46 projectors look like tsx projectors. I'm running them with the philips 85122+.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
no, not with the holidays and stuff. maybe this week, or next. but i really cant test anything cause tl projectors are not coming for a few weeks and i dont get back to my place for a few weeks still. hope they work.
Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
Hey gearbox have you checked out the replica zkw lenses at www.theretrofitsource.com; They're way cheaper ($125) than real zkw lenses. Lightwerks tested a pair and said they actually fit better than the real zkw lenses. TL projector output with the replicas is the same as the zkw lenses.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
lol okay first, lightwerkz doesnt always know what hes talking about. someone posted a pic with and without real zkw with an obvious big intensity increase with the zkw, and he still wouldnt believe it. theres a reason why real zkw projectors go for $300, because they actually work on the TL to increase brightness and sharpness. the projectors themselves are suck, its only because the lens is so popular that they cost so much. the replica lenses are garbage, if you line it up to a real tl, the height is different. it will affect the output and perhaps even make it worse (altho all the pics ive seen show it as equal brightness to a stock tl lens, except with sharper cutoff). if the sharp cutoff is worth that much, then yea go with the fakes. i personally wouldnt pay more than $10 for those. and the guy who owns the site is a scammer. he was banned from hidplanet for shady business and horrible retrofit work. not to mention just keeping peoples parts and disappearing, or sending broken/defective products. so dont be surprised if the lenses you buy come chipped. having a sharp cutoff isnt the greatest thing either. it will be more distracting to oncoming drivers, and you will see the cutoff on the ground as a line, instead of a gradual fade will make it harder on your eye at night. and considering that a tl projector is brighter than almost every clear lens projector makes me think having a slightly brighter light is not dependent on the lens so much anymore. clear lens is old news, and almost no car comes stock with them anymore.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
I kind of figured the retrofit source had some shady business going on. He was trying to compare a tsx setup to TL/ZKW saying they are pretty much equal. I know for a fact that they are not because I have been playing with a bunch of projectors. I just didn't realize he was banned from hidplanet. Thanks for the heads up because I was going to buy some shrouds from that guy.
I'm one of those guys who wants a sharp cutoff with some color, which is why I wanted a bixenon. There's something about a Fresnel lense that just doesn't fly with me. I'm aware of the eye strain associated with the sharp cutoff due to the definite contrast of light and dark, which is why I wanted an extra high beam function...just in case I have to drive on those dark roads.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
Awsome kev :-) Well guys I came home to some boxes last night and I am happy to let you know I got the HID's installed, with the harness. Everything works. I will be taking pictures tonight. I just need to splice the wires for the high beam. I will have the pictures up with it gets dark out. I got the 4300k kit because I wanted visability. Might not be as "cool" looking, but im ok with that. I had some sylvania silverstars in the TYC's temporarily and althought they looked hot oncoming, in the car, the suck.
