okay. ive never seen those on ebay yet but ill keep looking. ill prolly get a couple and see which ones they can make look the best. they should be able to make shroud extension right? cause they are not very deep to actually cover the projector.
these? doesnt look that great imo

^are you gonna go with customlightz man? I'm surprised you're not going to DIY.. espec. since you've done a retrofit before..

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
if you've ever done a complex retro with a lot of cutting and fabrication, you'll understand why most people won't do it again. i'm happy with the retro i did, but afterward, i had several people ask me to do one for them and i said no. i don't want to do another for awhile.

Yeah they can make shroud extensions. My TFX projectors are an odd shape and they were able to make shroud extensions for it.
With any of the bmw shrouds, be very careful with it. The chrome flakes off really easy, they fall off when you try to wipe the shrouds.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
yea i heard that lol. you gotta handle with gloves. yea im sending to customlightz. throwing a projector in sonar halo housing is totally different than doing it in oem lights. first, i dont want it to look throw together and sloppy, second, theres a ton more work involved in cutting and mounting. all i did before was use a few bolts and glue the projector in the housing for the sonars.
Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
yeah I thought it was simple too, until I took my headlight apart. Way more work than I thought it would be. So I figured why not pay and have it done right the first time, and so far I'm pleased with the outcome. 300+ retrofits under their belt is enough credibility for me.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
Ok guys, i don't wanna read 9 pages of technical stuff all to get confused and not know whats going on. So whats the general rundown to this thread? Like i was reading on CRSX about how some of their members put pnp hid kits on their after market projectors, and yea its a brighter light but its still not the same as a retrofit... For those that don't have enough money time or patience for a retrofit, whats the rundown on just slapping a hid kit on, if the bulb will fit???

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
^that first pic is really bizarre.. mine looks nothing like that.. LT the bottom line is it's a bad idea to put a PNP HID kit and bulbs into a halogen projector (like TYC headlights) .. you need to either retrofit a HID projector in there, or run a PNP kit in the stock HL housings, but it's a bad decision on 01-03 HL's because the glare is REALLY bad from what I hear...

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
OK how about a picture of a 7th gen with TYCs and a pnp kit. That is kind of really what I wanted to see in the first place. 8th gen guys are lucky because I saw my friends in his stock housing and it looked fine, just needed to aim it.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
back to page 5 lol...again there are at least two different types of tyc projector unit, one with clear lens and the other with fresnel, which have slightly different outputs. no projector will be exactly the same so really theres no way to tell what happens when you throw hid kit inside

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
I went and read it again and i didn't see those lol. That could tie me over until I get the proper projectors, and that nissan glue. If it glares a little i will just aim them a tad lower.

you can get a roll of the butyl rubber that i used. it was called "3M Window Weld." it's great stuff for putting the housings back together. pretty cheap too. a $10 box would probably do 10-15 PAIRS of headlights easily if not many more. i think it's cheaper than the Nissan glue and there's more in the box too.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
Looks pretty good to me but that colour with snow = impossible to see the road. I remember when I had some 8000K lights it was terrible in the winter to see. Now I put some 4300k silver stars much better but I'll get some HID's whenever they blow. Buying bulbs all the time get annoying.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
^get one on Ebay.. they have good relays on there, just make sure it draws power directly from the battery, and it's for H4 or 9006 whichever year civic you have..
Thanks man
they're actually 6000K, and IMO they do great in the snow, they really make the snow GLOW actually, and I can see it very well.. and yeah I hear ya on halogen bulbs.. I hope my kit goes for a long time

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
the tyc is an h1 bulb, but the stock wiring that you hook up to the TYC's are for an h4. That is where my confusion is now. I gotta peal back the seal on the headlights and see how the wiring is from the bulb.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
if you're putting a PNP in TYC, you'll get a H1 kit. the ballast will have a generic power plug on it that you'll have to adapt for H4. your best bet is to buy an H4 ground switched (not positive switched) harness that will plug into your stock wires and then have the outputs off the relay for the ballasts.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
well i won those mercedes shrouds so i guess those will be used for the retro. now i need headlights. if i cant find any oem in good shape, i may just get the passwordjdm clear ones for $350 shipped which is still alot cheaper than buying oem usdm from dealer at $475 a pair.
Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
You sure you don't want to get the zkw lenses for the TL projectors gearbox? Might as well go all out; you'll have the best projector combo out there.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
idk, cost is already gonna be around 1200 by the time im done. dont really feel like spending 300 for lenses and opening the projectors up lol. and besides, the 55w bulbs should still be pretty bright in them.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
difference between stock (top) and hi watt hid setup (bottom) in acura TL projector
Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
Wow that's a huge difference in intensity. You think there's going to be any problems with heat in a closed projector. I'm still debating whether to go with 55W or just stick with the 85122+.
