heres a recap:
pretty much, monster cable sued hundreds upon hundreds of companies because they used the word monster.
the ones that come off the top of my head:
monster.com - now at the bottom of their site is a link to monster cable's site
monster energy drink
monsters inc. (yes, the disney movie)
monster garage
monster house
emachines (for making a computer called the emonster)
but even worse, they sued tons of small independently owned businesses that some people are using just to make ends meet.

anyone spending 100 dollars for a 3 foot fiber optic cable should be dragged out in the street and shot. twice. Monster has always been bullshit and i am not sure why this surprises you too terribly much. if you look at the dates of thier litigation it coincides fairly well with thier drop in stock price after the tech bust. 'if you can't innovate; LITIGATE!'

I have to agree with Jonas here. They were probably in a slump. I have seen stereo shops quoting one thing and installing something completly different though. wire is wire, some are insulated better, but it's all wire. I never could understand gold fasteners and stuff for car audio, seems like overkill. kind of like buying a gold plated turbo system, does it make it faster, no.
