seriously.
you can run higher weight oil and ur car will be fine. the MPG might be hurt a little but not nothing darastic... (like u lose 1 or 2 mpg)
as far as dino and syn goes, most "full synthetic" oils are not even truly synthetic. they are still GROUP III oils but they are so pure that they "pass" as syn.
do ur research and see.

First of all I did some searching and found a lot of mixed reviews. I got my oil changed today and instead of going to the dealership where I work I took it to the guy who does all my installs. I know Honda says the recommended oil is 5w20 but he told me it was better to put in 5w30. I'm pretty sure it was the upper end Mobile1 5w30. Anyways some of the threads said 5w30 was good and some said to use 5w20. I AM NOT TURBO. It's an 2002 ex w/ 72,000 miles with just intake header and exhaust.
So was 5w30 ok and will it be better for the car..

The main reason for Honda recommending 5W20 is that you will get a little better fuel mileage vs using 5w30 weight. Less resistance with 20w on the high end vs 30w. I personally like 5W30 in hot weather, and I use 5W20 in the Winter. My Civic has 226k on her, and she likes the 5W30 high mileage in the Summer.

Wow that's hard to believe 30w on a warm engine, wouldn't flow well. You have 5w at startup. You look at Subaru WRX all recommend 5w30w, due to the heat from the turbo. The rest are running 0w20w though. My 05 Honda Civic, is the 1.7 non V-Tech. SOHC. I just changed her today with 5W30W, and she's very happy. LOL.

I think you are missing the point, that 20w on the high end, is simply going to give you a little better fuel mileage. Yes of course Honda recommends 5w20w, because they don't want complaints, that the car is not getting the mpg, that is was supposed to get. I would rather have the protection of 30w synthetic in hot weather, than a couple mpg more. I respect your view on it though. Thank you.

To be honest, Firestone isn't reputable to me. I've had an alignment done by them on my 2007 Volkswagen GTi 2.0T, and my steering wheel changed it's position for drive straight, a few times over the course of the day. Seemed alright, then by next week, I had crashed it due to mechanical failure in steering and brakes. They're a bit of a sham shop, almost like Mr. Tire. When you bring your vehicle in for an alignment, they ask for the purpose of it, on their notes. I told them "Maintenance" and the guy was like "Maintenance? Well I mean, people don't usually bring their car in routinely for an alignment. Like, is it pulling to one side of the road, or?" And my reply was "That's a shame they don't, but yeah. Just Maintenance."
