Advice on replacement struts

I recently got my tires rotated and the tire shop said all four of my struts are leaking and will eventually need to be replaced and I've noticed that I've been getting that hollow knocking sound when going over bumps.

I would like to replace these myself to save a few bucks but I've been reading a lot of posts saying that some of the aftermarket stuff doesn't quite fit right and you have to cut stuff etc. I just want a good replacement strut cause obviously the stock ones suck and always leak (these are my second, first ones replaced under warranty). I have no intentions of lowering my vehicle or anything, I just want an easy to install strut that's good and won't leak. What are my options? TIA.

What year civic? Tokico's would be your best bet or just get some OEM ones.

If you can tell us what year your civic is.. we can tell you whether you will have problems installing certain aftermarket struts.

If you want your car to handle better.. I'd suggest getting a set of Tokico HP Blues. They arent too expensive and are a good replacement compared to the stock ones.

edit: damn u rob! u beat me to it hahah

Tokico HP (aka blues) will do well. KYB GR-2s also are a good choice.

oh.. in that case u are pretty much open to any aftermarket struts.. its usually the 03+ that have to do a little custom work in order for the struts to go in.

So are these Tokico HP a lot better than say Monroe OEM struts? Also, where is the best place to buy these in Canada and what kinda prices am I looking at? Thanks.

Koni's are little pricier but I am very happy with them. Plus they are repairable if anything goes wrong, and any shop should know how to fix them.

I suppose if I had a 01-02 I would have probably gone with the Tokico HP.

yeah you can use tokico with stock springs, and it shouldn't adjust height.

thanks..but another quick question...what if you cut your bump stops?? If you leave the cut bump stops in the tokico`s and then put stock springs on...will that raise my rear to the stock height without problems? I could use the old control arm too...right?? Trying to convert my car pretty much back to stock....thanks I appreciate the help
