Last night, a taxi decided to brake check the **** out of everyone top stop to pick up people (illegal to hail your own cab in Vegas, BTW..). Not only that, there was a damn parking lot the dude could have pulled into to pick people up.
The guy I was following braked hella hard, which caused me to brake hella hard. I'll admit, I took a split second to look at something, and when I looked up, I saw the *** end of a 96 Civic getting bigger and bigger. Hit the brakes, and when I realized I wasn't going to make it, cut the wheel hella hard to avoid rear ending the **** out of him. As soon as I straightened my car out, the wheel sunk to the right. So I pulled into the parking lot, and saw my tire was done. Upon further investigation, the rim was gouged and lip bent.

You guys think it's repairable? I e-mailed a quote to.. uh.. Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists Las Vegas, and their gallery showed a bunch of rims in worse condition that got repaired.
In all honesty, I just needed to vent. That is all. lol

Re: Blargh.. Damaged wheel..
I cut the wheel to avoid the guy in front of me. I had three options: rear end the guy I was following, sideswipe the **** out of someone in the adjacent lane, or run up a curb. I chose the curb.
Re: Blargh.. Damaged wheel..
So easy to fix. just need so sand down the surrounding area, fill in the missing metal with something and then bend the lip bac to its original place. then paint the original color. should be pretty cheap. you can do it yourself but yeah, i would have a pro do the work. probably need a new tire

Re: Blargh.. Damaged wheel..
Thanks, but I'm definitely gonna have a pro do the work. The lip is pretty bent, and don't quite want to attempt that myself. Thankfully, it was the same rim I wanted to get (cosmetically) fixed for a while. Got roughed up in a small accident back in 2005.
As for the tire, I definitely need a new one. Aside from the huge chunk missing adjacent to the gouge in the tire, there's a flapping piece of rubber that exposes a hole going all the way through the sidewall. If you look at the first picture, you can kinda see it raised up a bit. In the second picture, it's to the left of the focus in the picture, about where it says "Radial" on the sidewall.

Andddd last I checked, he owns a car, not a bicycle. Duh .
your right chewing gum and baby powder are for bike tires. Its a piece of cloth damped in oat meal that works for car tires.

Re: Blargh.. Damaged wheel..
well, the missing piece does not worry me too much, it's the rim guard, so called as to try to be the one that takes the hit to try to save the wheel, unless hit is too hard (as in this case).
The flapping portion will be trouble if it have less than 2mm rubber from the external ripped surface to the body ply - or worse, if you can see the cords, definitely needs replacement.
I had one rip in the inside (clipped the apex and the tire went out of the road and got ripped when climbing the alphalt step back...). Lasted a good 30k miles since it ripped only the rim guard out.

I had no choice but to hit the curb hella hard. I knew from the impact I blew the tire, and the wheel sinking to the side pretty much verified it. As for the flapping hole, I can use it as a pen holder. It's a no-**** hole in the sidewall.

Re: Blargh.. Damaged wheel..
So, good news. I just realized that I had a spare rim sitting around. As some of you may recall, I found a mystery sized Buddy Club P1 Racing SF rim in gunmetal on ebay for $20 shipped. When I got it, found out it was a 16x7 et42 4x100. Not bad, considering the only difference is the rim diameter. I had 2 plans for it: either a) full sized spare or b) badass subwoofer grill. Subwoofer grill idea fell through, even with all the screen mesh preps I did on it. After the other night's ordeal, however, I remembered I had it and decided to put a tire on it, that is, after removing all the screen mesh and silicone adhesive on it. After a couple hours of razor blade scraping and bead blasting (yes, I know it ****ed up the paint, but I don't give a ****), it was ready for a tire.
Azumi's back on her feet now, walking with a slight limp due to wearing a shoe a half size too small, but she'll get by. Overall diameter is off by a quarter inch, but you can't tell the rim is smaller unless you're really looking for it. Over the next week, I'm gonna have to tear apart the passenger side and see if there's any extensive damage from hitting that curb.

No ****. That's why I said "I admit, I looked down at something." easily what led to me causing damage to my car.
And I wasn't following that close, there was a good 4-5 car gap infront of me traveling 45mph. Didn't help the cab illegally stopped on the street to pick peeps up instead of pulling forward 20 feet into the parking lot.

Re: Blargh.. Damaged wheel..
ouchie... i do believe you tire is a goner from the pic...
Also, i believe you might have the ABS tsarting to turn on sometimes? diff diameter tires do tend to make ABS crazy with the diff RPM that the smaller tire will cause.

Re: Blargh.. Damaged wheel..
Well, I actually work at a wheel repair shop in Utah and that bend should be easy to fix. You may have to refinish the whole wheel though because the paint standard.
