Sunroof Drain Tubes Leaking
Sunroof Drain Tubes Leaking
Hey gang. So I've had the same problem: water in the cabin (floor, both sides, front) from apparently "clogged drain tubes", on a 2022 sunroof that I absolutely NEVER use, after a big downpour,
I am flumoxxed as to why it's ok to let Honda get away with a mechanism that lets water inside the cabin when it is never even opened or used. There are several class action suits to other makes (VW, Volvo...) but I don't see Honday.
That being said, is there a way to PERMANENTLY SEAL THE DARN ROOF? I don't want it, I don't use it, so I'd be happy to have it sealed up and never allow "debris" into the tubes. Thanks!

Moving to your own thread in the proper section.
It's not feasible to have a perfectly sealed sliding window on the roof. So, the window seals the best it can then the catch basin underneath takes care of the small amount that gets through. It's been this way for like 30 years. Roof window drains really should never clog. My '02 with 325k miles has never had issues. You need to check what the issue is or take it in for warranty.

Re: Sunroof Drain Tubes Leaking
I completely agree they SHOULD never clog…
therein lies the problem.
the dealership claims “the drains were full of debris, I need to clean there regularly, so it’s maintenance and therefore not under warranty”.
I say BS, it’s a design flaw, since the sunroof is never used and never opened, how is “debris” getting in there and where does it say we need to open it to clean there regularly, and why the heck do clogged drains then leak INTO the cabin instead of outside????
but I’m in a catch-22, Honda says speak to the dealer, the dealer says case closed.
there have been class action suits against VW and Volvo and even BMW for the same problem, but not Honda it seems. I’d join one if there was.
so really what I prefer is for the sunroof to simply go away. I’d love to seal it up completely to become “debris-proof” but haven’t heard of any method yet.

PERMANENTLY SEAL THE DARN ROOF..
May not look the best but.. Flex Seal should do the trick., and it may not be easily reversible.

thanks, yes, that’s the kind of thing I’m wondering about. Or even soldering it shut 😉.
. hoping to hear actual experience, but I may be shooting into the wind.

What year is your car.. the '08 and '12 have a glass sunroof with rubber gasket all around, no way to solder that.
If you have a car with full metal sun roof. it would be possible to sand it to bare metal and solder or weld, but the heat may/will disform the metal unless careful.. I woudl think you would jaut ise silicone caulking and not have to destroy the paint to seal iit.

thanks. Glass and rubber here.
I siliconed a windshield 30 years ago, ended up with more rust under it. Sigh.
