Starts for a second then stalls

My 04 civic lx was overheating so after changing the thermostat, water pump/ timing belt, and the two coolant sensors by the thermostat I was still getting bubbles out of the radiator. Last thing was the head gasket. 3 days later , everything put back together and it starts for just a second and stalls. I saw a thread on here but I cant find it agai . Anyway it led me to unplug the crankshaft position sensor as a test so I did and it kept running so my dumb as waisted anthrax 75? On a new crankshaft position sensor that I didnt need because it only stays running when Its unplugged. so my question is why ? Ý6 dose that mean that it will only remain runnigngh when that sensor Is unplugged in

Timing is correct? Or did you install an aftermarket sensor?

Green key flashing rapidly when it stalls? diag immobi
Sets new fault codes? Follow codes.
No codes? cam-crank out of sync (timing wrong)

Re: Starts for a second then stalls

Did you ever find out what was wrong? My 2001 Civic is doing the same thing. Broke timing belt 6 or 7 months ago so had to do a head job with all new valves. Been running great up until last week when she just shut off on the highway. Will run for a second. No codes. Towed home. Will stay running with Crankshaft Pos Sensor disconnected. Haven't tried driving like that but sounds great idling and racing engine. Plug sensor back in and shuts off after a second. Any help would be appreciated.

So something wrong with the sensor, check the wiring, connector, if all looks good change the sensor, do not use an aftermarket sensor, get one from a junkyard if you don't want to pay what the dealer wants

Re: Starts for a second then stalls

I don't have the green key light flashing. I'm going to check the crankshaft/camshaft timing before I replace the CKS. After I did the head job last year and replaced the timing belt, tensioner and water pump I've had an oil leak. I installed new seals but must have damaged one. Will post on what I find out.

Re: Starts for a second then stalls

So I found out it did jump a tooth on the timing belt. The oil leak was coming from the valve cover too and not the cam or crank seal. When reinstalling stripped the threads on the tensioner. Damn. Was able to install a helicoil but it was difficult due to no room. Seems to be good so far. Didn't see anything wrong with the tensioner or belt. They were only 6 months old. Suspect oil from the valve cover gasket leak may have gotten on the timing belt and allowed it to slip. What are you guys thoughts?

Re: Starts for a second then stalls

I bought a premium kit on Ebay. The water pump was Aisin brand, and the timing belt is Evergreen Racing. The tensioner is GMB. So aftermarket. Thought I was getting good ****, but maybe not so much. We'll see. Keeping my fingers crossed. Shes got 253,000 on her so far.

Evergreen is crap. Get a Gates belt. It's like $15. Aisin water pump is fine.

No problem. Gates is actually the OEM for the Honda timing belts/water pumps, so remember that for future reference.
