Crankshaft Position Sensor Calibration?
Crankshaft Position Sensor Calibration?
So, I had a huge engine coolant failure, and I had the water pump and thermostat replaced by my father-in-law. A P0339 code is popping up, and I cannot get my vehicle inspected until it does. My father-in-law has said that the timing belt and timing are set correctly, but that "the car needs to drive 200 miles so that the crankshaft position sensor can calibrate itself." I've read from a couple different forums that just cleaning the CPS will resolve this issue most of the time, and am wondering if he's just blowing smoke up my *** about this whole calibration thing.

The definition for P0339 is: CKP sensor signal intermittent interruption. Think about this definition, versus what your FIL said. What do you think?

Has the code been erased, and car driven long enough to see the code reset?

Since it got a water pump replaced, I'd suspect there might be liquid inside the connector of the CKP, or terminal corrosion inside that connector, or loose fitting female terminals. Something that would cause a poor electrical connection. Last resort would be a bad sensor.
(I'm not sure if a loose mounting bolt can cause this but I guess you should look there too)
I never unplug the CKP wires when I do a timing belt, because I know how problematic these can be. I unbolt the entire sensor and move it to the side.
