Hi All,

I'm that guy so apologies upfront. I recently ordered a replacement O2 sensor for my GF's 2003 EX. Took the old one out, stood up to compare it to the replacement and accidentally broke it. To top it off, the Bosch was the wrong dang part! So with no car right now and an Amazon Prime subscription, I figured I'd order a next day shipping option but cannot figure out which is the correct one. Denso says it's

but that involves wiring, (i'd strongly prefer to get one with a harness). When looking around, it basically looks like Amazon calls everything "Downstream" when I'm trying to replace the one on the front. That sucks because model

looks like a good fit. But even Denso calls this one "Downstream" too.

Anyone know what I could order for the front O2 sensor on a 2003 EX, (D17A2 engine) that includes a harness?

You need NTK O2 front (upstream) sensor. This is the original equipment.

Thanks emich! Only problem is not having access to a car at the moment, (not sure how bad it would be to drive w/o a O2 sensor). That said, I went ahead and ordered the

so I can get it tomorrow. According to http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/part_finder/car_truck_suv/results.asp, it's the "pre cat" and a fit for the D17A2. If it doesn't work out too perfectly, at least I'll have something to throw in there and get me to Advance tomorrow.

How to replace O2 sensors? Is it easy?

Do we need to apply any thread lock solution on the threads? any specific torque?

I think changing is different on the EX vs DX, etc, but it was pretty simple - though you'd want to jack the front of the car up if it's the EX. There's a specialized socket, but honestly, a regular old box wrench was I all needed from underneath. And I didn't torque it to anything specific. It ain't going no where

No thread lock. Anti-seize, if anything. I tighten them down so they're nice and snug; I don't necessarily bust out the torque wrench for them. If you want an actual torque spec, it's something like 33ft-lbs

Removal is simply disconnect harness, 17mm (I think) wrench (open ended. Use a box wrench, you're gonna have to undo it all to get the wrench off) to get it off, installation is reverse of removal.

edit: BootyDo is kinda correct for EX removal/installation vs LX/DX. It all has to do with the location of the cat. EX, the cat is underneath the car, so the O2 sensors are located a bit upstream (just before the bend of the downpipe), and immediately downstream of the cat, before the mid-pipe flange. The DX/LX has the cat located as an integral part of the exhaust manifold, so one sensor is located at the collector for the 4 exhaust runners, and one is presumably immediately downstream of the cat. Physical removal/installation of O2 sensors is the same exact process, however.

I should note, though. OP, ensure you get a sensor for the proper year. 01-03, Honda used a narrowband upstream sensor, and switched to a wideband (much more expensive) sensor in it's place.

2005 car and PCM
Primary sensor is an AF sensor (usually Denso brand)
Secondary is a regular O2 sensor

But if you have an older car and are using a 01-03 PCM, you need regular O2 sensors.
