I know this is a pain in the a''' but my 98 civic drivers door wont open inside or out. Many videos on you tube but want some ideas how to attack this. My key does lock and unlock both doors but the handle on the inside and out do nothing to open the door help!

Re: door wont open

Latch is seized, I had the same problem on my girlfriends '99 but it was the front passenger door.
Go ahead and grab yourself another latch before you attempt to replace it, junkyard will be cheapest.
The last post in this thread has the write up I used to get the door open and swap out the latch.

Re: door wont open

I had this happen about 5 months ago to me. I forgot exactly what they call the part, but it was a small pin or part on the latch that became worn down or broke. It was a huge pain, but I had to remove my door panel which took forever, and then used a butter knife bent at a 90-degree angle at the tip to open it up. There's a youtube video out there on how to get it done. Try to have patience and you'll get it done.

Added, here they are:

Re: door wont open

Hello guys I got the door panel off with the door locked shut but how many screws mount the door actuator? I thought only 1. And how do you get the black plastic protective cover near the actuator off? One screw is off. A lot of vides out their but they are 4 door civics. Mine is a 2 door ex 1998 . I was quoted $500.00 for the entire job. I'm stubborn and wont pay thanks to forums like this. I need to move or remove these so I can try to move the stuck pin so I can open the door to replace the entire latch assy.
thanks

Re: door wont open

i think it's like 3 screws for the actuator and then the 3 big phillips for the latch, you can remove the latch and actuator as an assembly,
should only be the one screw for the black cover, maybe you took out a different one by accident?
just keep prying in different areas, worse comes to worse, break it. you're putting a new latch in anyways.

Look for the 96-00 service manual in pdf format, it's out there
Chapter 20 has several illustrations that give a lot of info on how the door is put together
