I have a 94 Civic coupe and the drivers side door will not open. it is unlocked, but it is not unlatching.

I believe the problem is with the latch. I have pulled the door panel off enough to where i can get my hand inside of it and pulled the plastic sheet away. All the rods are connected and everything is moving, but the latch will not unlatch.

I have pulled the door panel off of the passenger side to check some things, and everything looks the same on both sides.


Has anyone had this problem before... maybe know how to unbolt the 'U' bolt from the inside?

I have no clue. The same thing is happening to my rear driver side door in the 97 I just got 2 days ago.

My idea I got was just to replace the entire door.

we had a similar problem with our 97 EX. We couldn't get the door to open at all. One posted reply to our issue said spray silicone everywhere inside the latch. No change for us.

It turns out that the part on the door latch that is connected to the door handle rod was bent. We disconnected that rod from the latch and voila, the door opened (from the inside of course). now we're waiting for the right latch to arrive and will try to install a new one. I'm thankful we didnt have to drill out/destroy the latch just to open the door.
