Rought idle sometimes
Alright my girlfriends car is a 2001 civic ex manual and resently she has been having idling problems at times. When she comes to a stop some times it will shake the car really bad but once she starts driving again it's fine. When it started shaking it was in 5th then she put it in 1st and then neutral and let out the clutch and still does it. There was once that the idle went up to 2k rpm and anyother time it doesn't move the rpm. I looked under her hood because i have a 2002 civic ex manual and seemed like the intake was noisey and sounded clogged but i have an aem v2 so i don't remember how it sounds. I looked at the filter and it looked fine but sounded like it was coming from the intake resonator. BTW no check engines lights ever.

More than likely the 2nd one, basically try cleaning your throttle body and idle air control valve.

Re: Rought idle sometimes
Thanks, I ended up looking at the front motor mount and it was slightly ripped so were taking it in to get serviced while still under used car warrenty. I think the rest i could do my self if i have to but i already cleaned spark plugs to make sure they look good and then reset ecu and hasn't been reving for no reason anymore but still alittle rough. I also put my stock airbox on and it sounded the same, just putting all this info out incase someone is ever seaching it the future because i couldn't find what my exact problem was.
Re: Rought idle sometimes
The broken motor mount will cause some additional vibrations but of course will have nothing to do with the idle jumping. Cleaning out the IACV should help clear up your idle jumping. And don't forget to do the idle relearn when you're done.

I did the idle relearn after i checked out and cleaned the spark plugs and it doesn't rev anymore by it self, but the motor mount was torn alittle bit but woult that make it shake only once and a while or you think it's the valve ?

61,000 and a 2001 the previous owner was a city driver and the car sat alot. Now the car is making a whisling sound when you have the ac on at a certain rpm you think that could be the valve too, because it won't make the noise any lower than 2,000 rpm and seems like it won't go over 3,000 rpm?
Re: Rought idle sometimes
Whistling sound may be the alternator. Some people have had noises from their alternator before it dies.
If doing the idle relearn fixed the idle (jumping revs) then the vibrations may be solely from the motor mount. However, when at idle the IACV can make the idle drop low and cause vibrations as well. It wouldn't hurt to clean the IACV and TB. It is quite easy. After you get the intake off it's just 7 bolts and removing 2 cables. I did mine on a Saturday and spent about 2.5 hours start to finish.
