HUrricane wilma and HYDROLOCK
so i have a cold air intake on my car and yesterday i was drving...like normal except there was a bunch of water ahead normally i would just stop and look for another way around but i decided to truck on and go through it.(since it took me 1 hr when it normally takes me 15 minutes to get to my destination) bad mistake cause of course it sucked up some water adn i belive now my engine is hydrolocked..i wont even turn over nothign just sounds like its goign to start and thats it...my question is what to do with the damn car..put the stock airbox in. leave the cai in. brign it to the dealer. try insurance. pay for it...try fix it myself?? any suggestions please....
You can fix this yourself. Just pull the plugs and turn the engine over using normal starting procedures. It obviously will not run without plugs but this will get the water out from the engine. After this is done, put the plugs back in and try to start it. It should run, there may be water in the exhaust so let the engine run a bit. Your last step is to go to your dealer or another auto shop and have a compression check done. If any of the cylinders is low it usually means you bent a rod. Just get that rod replaced or you will throw it and ruin your engine. If you have any questions pm me. I have been through this scenario with my offroading vehicle.
My SL65 rim, because a rim is all I can afford

I bought a flood damaged car once, I bought a cheapo funnel like an oil one but metal and blew hot air down into it (use a hair dryer) and keep it each cylnder for a few minutes. I did this on and off for a few days, changed the oil, made sure the electric stuff was all good, and it fired right up.
Good luck and hope this helps.
I hydrolocked my engine a few months ago. They say I sucked up about a gallon of water and bent the rod so bad it wouldnt turn over even without the plugs in. They showed me the rod and it looked like a L instead of being straight. The bill was $2200, but the insurance company picked it up because it happened in a flash flood.
so yea my car got towed to a local shop..rods and everythign are fine..just alot of water and water in the oil..so yea basically im happy its nto goign to be expencive...
