door open light?

door open light? Hi guys,
I have installed an alarm on my mates civic 04 model.
I have just noticed that his door open light only works when the ignition is on, is that normal.
I thought the door open light should work all the time.
Could someone please tell me what their civic is like, its the hatch with the gearstick coming out of the dash.

Yeah, generally they come on when ever the door is open, regardless if the key is in or not. BTW, you'r talking about the Si or SiR in Canada. Not sure why that is, has to be something in the wiring. Does it come on when the car is remotely unlocked?
