Ignition mystery

2010 Civic LX, When the engine is cold I have to hold the ignition key for a full minute or more before starter engages. After it warms up, everything is fine. I can shut it off and as long as I dont allow it to cool off it starts up normal.

Re: Ignition mystery

steering column included? could be inside the ignition
this type of stuff... Simply requires opening things up to find culprit

Re: Ignition mystery

Is it hold for a full minute and it cranks then it fires? Or hold for a full minute, then the starter starts to crank then fires?

Mine was doing this. I replaced the starter and took care of it. I think it is the solenoid on the starter that is causing this. Takes about 2.5 hours to replace the starter. Some people make a big job out of it on the civics but it's not that bad if you're patient and have nice set of extensions.

same for me. It got progressively worse until the day it wouldn’t start at all. My ‘08 civic needed to have the front axle taken off to replace it
