just wondering why my key is always super hot when i remove it? this doesnt have anything to do with the headlamp recall, right? honda never had me go back to get my lamp harness changed...

What recall are you talking about? I haven't found any record of a recall for the headlamp switch according to the Transport Canada database. If they say there isn't a recall, then why would you expect Honda to change it?

My best guess is that it heats up from the inductance that powers the smartchip in the key. The Coil in the ignition switch is also a powersource.

The transponder is encased in the plastic and is in no way conducting heat to the key shaft. There is only a very brief, low power pulse from the ingition switch to the transponder on startup. It doesn't generate any noticeable heat. The heat in the key shaft is normal. It is from the high current that runs through the ignition switch.

I don't know, but I think it's also part of the design (of the key itself)... I mean, my dad's '03 isn't as hot as the '01 even after long continuous use and it is shaped differently so it should theoretically be able to disperse more heat.

use the search button...

there are two recalls for the 7th gen civics...

the most recent one is still on the first or second page of the vehicle/issues problems forum.

i dont think the hot key has anything to do with the recall..just want to make sure though.
