Brake Fluid - Brand and Kind
Brake Fluid - Brand and Kind
I am doing my brakes (Civic 2006 EX Coupe) for the first time. I am broke, and tired to waste $ with mechanics that seems not to do something that good, or care. Anyway, on my search for ways and answers, I found that it seems that the DOT 5 in not at all recommended for the car (boiling point), only the DOT3 ( originally) or DOT4. Since that was my daughters car, I do not think that the mechanics (even at Honda) have ever flushed the brake fluid, and since I am changing the rotors and pads, I checked and saw that the fluid is also looking pretty bad, and I am changing/flushing it. But which one to use: Honda 08798-9008, Adam's x Recochem OEM Blue(for Asian Vehics), ATE Superblue...? As always any help will be highly appreciated?

regular DOT3/4 sold in parts stores.
hondas do not need special brake fluids.
Other fluids might require OEM fluids, but not brakes or coolant. Engine oil just need to meet oil weight. I think clutch also is OK
but transmission, power steering need specific OEM fluids

Thanks, I red something about the seals if using other fluids, but saw that mostly people were using the ATE Superblue or some say that the OEM blue for Asian cars would do it. I almost going to Prestone and calling g it a day.
PS.: One thing that i also saw while researching about it was that, even without use, old break fluids got bad on the bottles, after been open for too long (maybe for not been closed right, or left open for too long)

brake fluids take on humidity from air, you don't want water in a fluid that will heat (a lot)
well known that brake fluids suck moisture in (I knew from back in the 90's)

Re: Brake Fluid - Brand and Kind
Brake fluid should not be used if the container was opened more than 6 months ago, sooner if you're in a super humid area. Never heard of blue brake fluid. Just buy the normal cheap dot 3/4 stuff
