What is this cap/plug?

I saw this cap/plug was removed in my gf's 2015 Civic LX. Last time it was in the shop was 5 months ago so it's been out at least that long. She doesn't drive much anymore due to Covid working from home, maybe 50 miles in those 5 months. No error lights are on.

Can anyone tell me what system this goes to? Is there a fluid level that I should check or swap out before driving it? Or just pop it back in and move on?

Thanks for your help!

Pic 1: View of engine. Plug goes the hole seen between battery and air filter (?).

Pic 2: Close up of the hole. Plug was sitting right next to it.

That's the transmission dipstick hole, you will want to put that back in before more contaminants get inside the trans.

Re: What is this cap/plug?

Thanks for your help BrotatoChip! I'll get that on and check the fluid. Wondering if it would be wise to go ahead and change the fluid? Is it hydrophilic like brake fluid? Car is in southern California but the cap has been off for a long time.

Re: What is this cap/plug?

Nevermind my question. I've been reading some more threads on this. Seems like a somewhat common problem with these caps popping out. I'll follow up with the recommendation on cleaning the vent cap in these threads and go ahead with a fluid change.
Thanks again for helping orient me to this car!https://www.civicforums.com/forums/3...-question.html
