2015 Honda Civic LX - Missing Fill Plug - Transmission
My 2015 Honda Civic LX (automatic) began feeling like it was dragging/hesitating under 40km/h while decelerating. This would also happen while decelerating and then (without braking) accelerating (stop and go traffic or at signal). One time my car started shaking (think going on your brake and gas and brake and gas) that motion but way faster.
Today I finally went to Honda for general service and I was told my Fill Plug for the transmission is just missing. Not even randomly resting anywhere under the hood. Getting a Trans Fluid flush today and new plug tomorrow.
Any thoughts on this?
I can get a second opinion from a garage I know and I'll leave out that I went to Honda and see if they find anything.
Car is at 230,000km (VERY high km driven across the country a few times plus lots of mountain hiking so this car will die within a couple of years probably)
Could there be a pressure build up somewhere in the transmission? Vent tube blocked? Or maybe my transmission is about to just die (which would suck because I hike in the mountains no service I do have an SOS device though Inreach).
Any thoughts on this would be great. Car is always up to date on servicing. Don't have a garage to go to here so I deal only with Honda dealer for service (costs me a pretty penny every time).
Thanks.

Re: 2015 Honda Civic LX - Missing Fill Plug - Transmission
Vent cap is probably clogged up, we've had a few people post about the fill cap/dipstick popping out. Should be able to clean it out with some brake clean, otherwise should be cheap to get a new one.
Re: 2015 Honda Civic LX - Missing Fill Plug - Transmission
I had the same problem With my Honda Civic 2015. I have been on the phone with the dealership and Honda customer service for 3 weeks. Each one is pointing to the other not taking responsibility. It's obviously a problem that the transmission plug pops out.

Hello cherbear13,
Have you checked to see if your Civic received the computer update that a recall in October 2015 was to have provided? The computer software was "written to use high hydraulic pressure during certain CVT operation modes, which as a result may subject the drive pulley shaft to high stress." One could deduce that high (than normal) hydraulic pressure might very well result in a fill plug being pushed off! I have read about this in various places across the internet while I research why my own 2015 Civic (it's an EX) became totally wrecked within the span of 1 mile, without warning. Lost acceleration, got to the side of the road, wheels froze. It has not moved from the dealership where it was towed since mid February. However, my car and possibly as many as 18,000 others were not included in the recall.
You should immediately open a "complaint" at https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/ so that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration can track these failures. Dozens of people already have and the case is building for Honda to expand the recall and include 18,000 with the 120,000 it had already recall

You may not have had much of a failure, but it sounds to me like your car is heading for the same one so many of us have had. I believe dealers have been coached to put the blame on the driver. Mine has tried to tell me I must have ignored my Maintenance Minder which would have told me 3 times already to change the transmission fluid every 25,000 miles (I'm at 85,000 miles). But that's not true. The Maintenance Minder is programmed with "Normal Conditions" mileage intervals and the 1st transmission fluid change is recommended at 90,000 miles. The Maintenance Minder is not capable of assessing the viability of transmission fluid - it only goes by mileage. It's a little smarter when it comes to engine oil, but not with transmission fluid.
Had I know this was going on with Civics - had the dealer breathed a single word - I would have gotten my transmission fluid changed earlier - although I've read of other people that did and their transmission still failed prematurely. The computer software needed to have been updated early on. At this point, the damage has likely been done to anyone that wasn't involved in the initial recall and now it's only a matter of time.

I have a 2015 Honda Civic lx but it was manufactured 8/15 so I do not fall under the recall and the same this is happening to mine. I zip tied the plug down and it blew transmission fluid from underneath the plug.
