2012 Civic LX Automatic Noise
2012 Civic LX Automatic Noise
I need help with a noise my car is making. This noise happens after a cold start on cold days. The sound does not occur until the car is in gear. It is louder in reverse than in drive. In the video the car is in reverse with the brakes on. The noise goes away after driving for 5 minutes or so. Any help is appreciated.

Re: 2012 Civic LX Automatic Noise
I was looking at them today and visually I can't really see a problem. Tomorrow I am going to have someone else cycle the car through drive and reverse while I look and listen. I suppose if they move a lot that suggests they're bad. Hopefully I can pinpoint where the noise is coming from.
Re: 2012 Civic LX Automatic Noise
The engine moves a bit when shifting between drive and reverse but it doesn't seem like an abnormal amount. The noise sounds loudest at the left side of the engine. I put my hand on the passenger side motor mount and the vibration feels much less on the mount than on the engine itself. The mount vibrates only very slightly. The vibration is dampened by the mount. Could it be a pulley bearing? See the new video for noise in the engine compartment.

Re: 2012 Civic LX Automatic Noise
I thought it might be the serpentine belt tensioner so I de-tensioned that and spun all the pulleys by hand. All of them felt normal. After pumping the tensioner several times to de-tension it and feel around the sound has disappeared. I think it could be that the tensioner is going. If the sound re-appears I will replace the tensioner.
