Tranny leaking, could be the dip stick grommet anyone?
Tranny leaking, could be the dip stick grommet anyone?
People,
2001 civic ex, pink fluid dripping on the bottom of the case. Wiped it all down, nice and CLEAN. Has anyone ever experienced where it is not the seals of the case but the rotting black grommet on the dipstick, allowing fluid to splash out during driving? Does the fluid even come close to sloshing around the top to leak out of that seal?
I am letting the car sit with no driving to see if it is the case seals, if just with gravity the fluid seeps through. One shouldnt need to drive it so test the case seals, right? Opinions appreciated.
Thanks.

The dipstick can get loose over time. The vent can also get clogged up which can make the dipstick pop out as well

I checked but cannot find any thing that looks like a plastic cap near the dip stick area. Just one electrical wire/terminal, just 2" or so to the right of the dip stick . May be too much to ask but any way you can send a picture? Or point out the part # on the diagram below: (my car is a 2 door, not sure if the below 4 door AT is the same)

I bought a new dip stick and popped it in yesterday. It does fit nice and snug, like new, way better than the 25 year old one. I doubt it is seeping from that. I cleaned off the area well with a rag and will watch it closely. I cant figure out where the leak is coming from so far.
